Believe me Ed...college was back in the "Disco era"...1977 grad. so the RoadRunner has personal significance to me. I had a 68 with a 440 Pistol Grip 4 speed, and a 4:10 Dana...that was top dog for quite a while, here in the "hood'..ran 11.80s, with capped headers. but this modern era of fuel injection and the current availability of crude oil...is a totally different animal. Figure...(if you will)...that in the next year or 2...we will ALL be looking to convert to an "Alternative" fuel source. GOD...I hope it doesn't come to that...BUT, if you are really considering the future, for these beautiful cars..we ALL love so dearly...what are we going to do ???? What is to become of US ???? We are ((I'm afraid))...in the "last days" of fossil fuels - hydrocarbon chain based fuels... it ONLY gets worse from here.

Jeff,
Don't mistake pricing for availability. Most of the rest of the world would LOVE to be paying only $3.00 per gallon.

My grandmother said she would still be smoking when cigarettes were $5.00 a piece. It will be the same attitude with gasoline too, just a bit painful to get used to.

Ernest...you're telling me, that the rapid escalation in fuel price is to be expected, and normal ??? What HAPPENED to this countrys DOMESTIC crude oil production capabilities...back when I was a youngster (long-long time ago)...gas as ~$.30 / gallon..and there was NO imported Crude....ths was in the 60s..and early 70s. BUT you know what ? Every family had a car or 2 or 3....and there was no shortage. Now...I kow the population has grown since those days of my youth...BUT...our domestic production seems to have "VANISHED"..and NOW...all we hear about is the "GLOBAL price of CRUDE" is near $70/barrel...whatever happened to our domestic capacity to produce Crude to our domestic level of consumption ??? It used to be...but NOW its NOT ??? With the "Windfall Profits" our US Oil Companies have been enjoying, since our "shock" back to reality of what the rest of the world that can't produce their consumption rate of Crude Oil has been dealing with for the last 30 years or so...why isn't the domestic production been consistant with the growing demand here in the USA ???! word friends...GREED. At least thats the way this naive, uninformed and stupid person from "Lower Slumolia", (right here in the heartland of the USA...sees it). Sorry to make this political statement...but you folks from Texas..can have your Gubbenr back.!!!

Careful jeff, Texas still can secede again, and put fences along the northern borders too, and keep our oil. BTW, I actually visited the Spindletop well while driving around this last weekend. That well was 1000 feet deep and blew 100k barrels of oil a day during the blowout. Ah the good ole days....

OK-OK...I knew this rant would rate retaliatory comments..and I do apologize to any and all that might have been offended by them. especially the good folks from Texas. Believe me...I love Texas, and Texans...(except 1...that "used to be the governor")...There all better now.

Sterling-that's probably the best idea yet. We were able to get in with the "hook method", but it took a bit of screwing around.

Ed-

Take a couple of close up digital pictures of your key. There is a guy, Stuart, at keys4classics.com that can make a key from the photos for about $50 - maybe a bit more. Anyway, I had him make me a couple of spares and they works great. Unfortunately, he's in Australia, so it takes about 2 weeks for them to get here.

[QUOTE=Ed Hughes]In my driveway at least, don't ask me how I managed to do this! [QUOTE]

YOU may not have done it at all!

928's have a habit of locking themselves if the door locks are the least bit out of adjustment. Mine did it several times... once while I was standing right next to it. I heard the door lock motors start whirring and presto chango... the doors were locked... the key was in my hand!

One night I was awakened by a whirring sound. As I looked around the house, my ears led me to the window by the carport. I could distinctly hear the noise coming from the shark, so I went out to take a look. Lo and behold the locks were going up and down and up and down! Pulling the fuse was the only thing that stopped them.

Greg Nichols' site has an adjustment procedure for fixing that problem... if it is your problem.

Jerome
