Default Shock Replacement - Accessories Required?

I am preparing to DIY replace my original Boge shocks with new Boge's (going for maximum ride quality). As I am getting ready to order the shocks, I see related items on the websites such as adjuster nuts, adjuster rings, spring plates, etc. that add up to a good bit of $$. Will I have to order any of these, or can I use some of the old Boge parts to install the new shocks?

Your car will have all the accessory parts you need...plates, adjusters, etc...
Unless the threaded sleeves are fused to the shock body like mine were. But a shop press and a grinder to smooth the insides was all it took.

Remove old springs/shocks and take them to a tire shop for dis-assembly. The one near me does suspension work too. Quick and safe, gave the guy $20. Take them home, clean everything up, transfer all the parts to the new shocks and return to tire shop for re-assembly.

Hi autozone has good set of compressors to lend, might not be a bad idea to spray a good amount of PB blaster on the shock bottoms where the adjusters are now, so things will be loose when its time to remove them, and dont forget that the bottoms of ech shock can fit both ways but will only actually fit one way, you will see the bottom eyebolt hole has a cant or tilt on it, and watch how the spacers fit one side of the spacer is flat and the other has a cone shape, cones face away from the shock bottom

Mrmerlin is obviously (?) referring ONLY to the rear shocks having offset bottom eyesthat only go in one way....Also it may not be obvious to the naked eye that the rear top bolt pattern is asymmetric and will only go up one way. My first rear went in easily, so I didnt even think about it. Then the second one gave me lots of trouble refitting the top, until I found that it was asymmetric...

Uh yeah I guess I was only thinking that your replacing the rears only, for the front there are different way to remove the shocks , I would do some searching in the archives for front removal proceedures

Steve

Be prepared to replace the foam bumpers and the plastics disk washer (under the dust cap) in my case both were dead on removal. Harbor Freight has spring compressors pretty inexpensive if you're looking.

A couple days with old Blackie...and you now "need" to upgrade the shocks on your 88...with 1/3 the mileage of the 86.5 ??? You need the Bilsteins, and sport springs my friend..although they do firm up the ride and cornering, they also smooth out the ride on good road, so much so...I should have thought that Porsche would have made this the "default"...or Stock suspension setup, on the 928...and NOT an irregularly selected option....
