Busted a mufler clamp when installing an RMB... Installed - with video!
Hey gang!
Giovanni sold be his RMB when we were at SITM. Before the even, he talked me into installing it. Broke out the wrenches, and with a little persuation I managed to break the bolt off with the nut firmly rusted to it.
So at that point I abandonded the installation and have not touched it since. I was looking online and that clamp is like $50 or more. Do I need to replace the entire clamp or can I just get a new bolt and nut? Anyone BTDT? If I can just replace the bolt and nut, what size should I get?
I'd kinda like to install it for this weekend's Sharks in Hell (Fresh Water Frenzy) and wake up the neighborhood.

You need an M8x75mm bolt and M8 Nut plus two washers per clamp.
I'ld use stainless but zinc plate is probably good enough.
You could probably get away with a 70mm bolt but it can be hard to squeeze the clamp tight enough by hand to start the nut on the threads.
Cheers

Ducking already--
8mm is the same as 5/16 + 0.003", so you coud sub in a 3" long steel bolt that's already a bit rusty. Hey, you'll break the threds and the nut off next time, so who cares if it was metric or USS when it was installed?

I just changed an exhaust tip on a 993 this evening - same clamp style & bolt size: use a Dremel cut-off wheel to snap the bolt in the middle where the ring clamp faces meet. The clamp can then be removed and the pieces twisted out. A stainless 2.5" long 5/16" bolt gave lots of thread on the reinstall.

She's installed! One of the clamps looks like it's about ready to fail, so if you know anyone that has one laying around, I'll take it - In fct the other one didn't look too good either, so I'd take two!
I took a quick video of it just to give you a sense of what it sounds like. It was 10pm when I fired it up so I couldn't rev it too much out of fear of retaliation.

Very Cool Andrew
Sounds great. Interesting thing though, sound quality probably really doesn't do it justice, but I noticed that at startup and when you revved it, the camera moved noticeably... can you say ground shaking exhaust... gotta love it
Gotta get me an X-pipe for the GT!

Very nice Andrew
I just re-insatlled my muffler after running the RMB for over 1 year. I wanted to hear my engine again, and man did I forget how quiet she runs
