I hope those kids don't tear it up.... hopefully they just "borrowed" it from someone who generally takes better care of it.

Could be considered a sleeper, but the sweet exhaust tone would give it away.

Very cool! I'd like to have one of these in my collection. Next to the BB targa, the Strosek, the ASC 4-door, a moderne spyder, and one original type of every model year...

Haha, I"m just picturing the guys who already get fooled by the very brown 928. I picture them trying to follow that Golf and flying off the road trying to match its speed.

Did you know that the top speed of this conversion was higher than that of the standard 928? Yep - the "Box" had a lower drag coefficient than the standard 928.

THATS AWESOME!

Wow look at what the golf used to be and look at how big and fat they are now! What a conversion that must be wonder if they used the rear transaxle and a drastically shortened torque tube.

Not a bad idea considering you could find an early 16V car complete for probably 2-3K. Definately a cool project car!

There was another 928-powered Golf from Sbarro (scroll down, it's the white one before the Nordstadt version):

Nicole, I remember reading somewhere that a 928 has a lower drag factor when going backwards!

True for the models without spoilers. But then it also has a lot of lift...

I just assumed it was one of the Nordstadt VWs.... not just anyone is willing to make a one-off windshield for a project like this.

Its very funny hearing that 928 burble coming from that rabbit. The license plate is funny too with VW928 BUT i think i see a toddler in the back seat that must have gotten tossed with that burnout and turn.

Now if that was one of the "test mules" that is a VERY rare piece of 928 history i would think! Id love to have that thing! Pretty damn cool!
under the hood shot would be interesting to see. Considering the VW was FWD they must have done some extensive fabrication.

I love the sound!

Tony, the third page I posted has a so-so underhood shot. The article states that the only VW sheetmetal they used was the doorskins. Everything was built onto the 928 rolling stock.

Thanks, but none the less, this car is now in "public" hands so to speak?
It would be a pretty ambitous project for any one to put together...as pointed out, just the wider glass alone!
