Thanks, Malcolm. I don't have PET; does it show where the dowel pin is located so that I can cut it off? I'm guessing it is similar to a 944, but the description isn't exactly the same. I'm going to go check it out and just start tearing into. I need to find my shop manuals, but I'm not sure if they will help me.
Mark..........PET clearly shows where the dowel pin is located on MG 4 SG 03 ill. 403-05. I have it softcopy but don't know how to copy the image into a post; perhaps someone else can provide instruction.
the control cam is from the ignition lock to the igniton electrical switch the cam on the connector pushes the shuttle / spring so it engages the teeth on the steering column locking it. If you remove the control cam and grind off the cam part it will not push on thr shuttle and the wheel will not lock You then could ALSO drill a hole through the shuttle and housing to secure the shuttle from moving. To access you will be removing the pod and the ignition lock ....
On an 87 s4. There isn't a gold plug on the ignition side by the steering column. Drill that off center towards the steering wheel and driver's door with a small 16 inch drill bit into it drops in. Be careful if you're trying to retain the steering lock for the future. After that I Reed the hole within 8 inch drill bit until I could see the mechanism move back and forth with the key
. At that point I took a self-tapping screw and slowly screwed it up until the mechanism wouldn't latch the steering wheel.
