Zuffenhausen 928 Line Photos
Back in 1977 I picked up a new Porsche and they let me run around the 928 line and snap a few pictures. I never got around to doing anything with them but thought that 928 owners would be the most interested in them. Perhaps one of you has a 1978 model year car that is in these pictures. I'll keep scanning and posting. I have about 20 pics.

Fantastic of you to share this with us. I don't think you realize the magnitude of what this means as they are no less then new found archives. Very thoughtful, thank you so much!

Sorry to be taking so long. (The scanner is a bit slow). The outside shots of all the silver bodies reflect the fact that so many of the 928s were painted silver in the first year's production. They are outside of the paintshop in Werk II drying and in the queue for assembly. The assembly line was amazingly simple and short. It was just a horseshoe shaped line in which they merely pushed the cart along and started slapping things on the car. At the conclusion of it they were ready to drive out of the garage doors, take it for a street run, and then return it to the adjustment garage for last minute things. The majority of the laborers (other than engine assemblers) were Turkish and Italian in those days.

The guys working on the line had bigger hands than I expected
Also wearing watches while they work.
They seem to move the major units around by hand on the those little wagons with no fixings; I wonder how many fell off?

Very cool pics. Thanks!
That one engine with the head off looks as if it was QC'ed off the line?

Wouldn't it be nice to find one of these tucked away, wrapped in plastic, in a barn nearby....
The beautiful 928 engine from 1977.
And the transaxle...impervious to a beating by a Porsche craftsman...
