I've heard there is a new detector that is better than the V-1. I can't remember the site I saw the comparison at. Right now I'm not sure if I should even get one. I don't like things dangling in front of the windshield. I have seen a really great mod of the V-1 so that the wires run under the headliner next to the windsheild and along the dashboard. I'll try to get pics of it.

Why look for an alternative to the V-1 when it is far superior to anything else out there.

Two tickets pay for the thing and it really works very well.

Spend half the money and you will be dissatisfied IMHO

There's a Passport that's supposed to be better but costs a lot more. Use the search. I think Heinrich has one and has posted about it.

If you want the detector to be Stealth- Bel STI

I went with the 8500 X50 and love it.

I've been in two 928's that got tickets despite the V1's silence. I've been in 2 928's for 7 years equipped with Escort Passport SR-1 and 12 928's for 7 years equipped with Escort Passport X50 (it's the same internals as Bel RX65 which i have) and NOT ONE TICKET IN SEVEN YEARS. You decide. If you know me, this is a MASSIVE testimony for the Escort/Bel (same company) detectors.

Even if there are detectors with better range, less false readings etc nothing can compare to knowing if there are multiple bogies and what direction the source is coming from. Until another company can offer all that AND better range, look no further than a V1.

My main concerns with the V1 are:

1. Instant On Radar. You've got to be lucky to pick-it up before it's too late...

2. LIDAR - Ther is literally no protection. If it goes off you're dead. I wish there was a jammer system that could be integrated in the fog light assembly (maybe in place of the rubber bumpers, or where the inside trim pieces are).

3. Being able to determine what band the boogie is - all LEDs have the same color and I have to take a closer look which costs unnecessary time. If I'd hit the brakes everytime an X-Band boogey is detected, I'd get whiplash... I want to know what I'm facing

my concern are the tests itself.
it is not just a big industry , with interest in their own product.
there is also another large group with the intention of falsifying proper
test results.
