even at 50% of the value i would be hesitant to buy a salvage car. This car is priced somewhat typically for a 80K mile 95. Mind you one with a clean title. Its not low mile, its probably really average 7K a year, thats what mines covered over its life. But $40K, not gonna happen. It could get some interest at $25K, but i wouldnt pay more then $20K even if it were perfect which no 928 is really, there is always something to fix.....

Ryan,
I disagree with you. If a good PPI confirms that there is no evidence of structural or collision damage, and if I were in the market, 40K is a very good price for a rare 1995 GTS. My S-4 has a salvage title, and I had it examined for structural & collision damage with negative results. The amount of money that I paid for my S-4, would have probably bought me a high mileage 87-89 S-4. I could not be more satisified with my car Good deals do come around once in a while as I know that you are the owner of a good deal I imagine that if you return back to SoCal, we'll be seeing you at VCR

Well if you plan on keeping a car forever then consider a salvage car. Its salvage for a reason though, if it was stolen then i would be more willing to buy as i think thats the least harmful reason for a salvage. But it could be a flood or it may not have been inspected very well for damage. I think the problems with salvage cars are when you sell them. I mean the only difference is on the title really. I honestly dont even consider salvage cars, the price would have to be insane to even get me interested. Thats just me, but i think i am in the majority when i say that. Also I dont keep cars forever i get bored and want change if for no other reason then to change it. Change for me has recently come in new wheels and stereo and now working on restoring the interior and possibly in the near future a turbo or SC install.
Regardless, $40,000 is too high for a salvage GTS. Why pay 40 when you can pay 50 for a 30K mile willhoit gts. Dosent add up. There is the black 5 speed gts if i recall with like 40K miles for $39000 and its been available for years. Also there is a Rennlister with a dark blue S4 trying to get 11K or something for his car and to my knowledge still hasnt sold it. But thats the ship you sale when you agree to buy salvage. You may never sell it, so you better love it. And when you say the rare 95, rarity goes out the window when you talk salvage, a salvage 93 and a salvage 95 are the same thing to me, you pay for the last of the line for a good example that will appreciate, a salvage car will never do that. Maybe in 20 years when the 928 is a true classic and there arent many left, thats the time when mileage really becomes a null point as well as 40 year old cars are typically completely restored. But thats a long long way down the line.

Theft with no damage can also cause a salvage title in some states after the insurance company paid the claim and wrote it off as a loss.
The issue with salvage are the headaches that go with it such as required lamp/brake inspections ,major insurance companies will not insure them at all, resale value,etc... I owned one salvage Porsche and had no issues but my current carrier will not insure salvage cars.
If the price was right I would still get it-salvage or not.

People can say they're going to keep the car forever, but how many people have you all seen come and go on this board over the years? None of us knows how long we're going to keep these things. Even if that thing checked out with a PPI I still wouldn't pay $40K for it when it has a salvage title. The reasons why have been listed already. First and foremost is the fact that I can get one without a salvage title for about the same or maybe a little bit more money. And honestly, when you're already spending $40K on a toy, what's another $5K to spend to not have to deal with a mysterious past? In addition, that rear bumper cover doesn't match the rest of the vehicle. You can bet that whatever necessitated a respray (a poor one at that) on that bumper is what also gave the car a salvage title.

Anyone considering paying a premium of $40k on a 80K GTS automatic with a salvage title has to be on crack.
I would not mind purchasing a salvage titled GTS unless it has option 4:
1. extra low mileage
2. killer price (definitely not over $33k with service records and $28k without)
3. 5 speed
4. all the above considering my PPI

Question & Answer

Q: Why does it have a Salvage title?
A: THIS CAR HAS A CLEAN TITLE! I must have clicked something wrong and listed it as salvage. It most definitely is not. IT HAS A CLEAN TITLE, HAD A CLEAN CARFAX WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN 2003, AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED TO IT SINCE EXCEPT ABOUT 30,000 MILES. eBay will not let me modify the description now because there are already offers - I apologize for the confusion.
