Default 89 S4 Cap & Rotor - Need to Replace?

Car is running fine, in town mileage around 10-12 (heavy foot, lots of BWAAHHH).

PO installed new Beru wires and Bosch Plus4 plugs 20k miles ago. Wires are good and plugs a little fouled (more black than tan), but probably ok.

I looked at caps and rotors and they are a bit burned. There is no record of them ever being replaced & car has 103k miles.

My questions are these:
1. Should I go back to Bosch copper (OE) plugs?
2. Should I use only Bosch cap & rotor or are aftermarket ok? (my British cars would not run unless I used Lucas ignition components, so I'm a bit nervous here)

Thanks for any comments you care to share.

1. Bosch copper
2. Bosch not aftermarket

The plugs should be tan. Your gas mileage, even with a heavy foot, is terrible for an 89. I average 17-18 including a lot of around town driving.

I've used the Plus4 and copper. I see no difference, although you will see people here who have a strong preference for copper.

I'm not sure about "aftermarket" cap & rotor. I just buy the good stuff from one of our 928 vendors. Do change the cap & rotors. Clean or replace the plugs. If they aren't tan right away, you have other problems (O2, MAF).

I've got aftermarket caps and rotors. They work great.

Ya, right. Didn't they cause your oil leak?

Nope. Only the crap I buy from Canada causes problems like that.

I have caps and rotors made by Intermotor (UK), no problems at all, well made and significantly less expensive than Bosch.

Bear in mind that it is the OEM Bosch electronics that fails so expensively - LH ECU and Ign Amps for instance.

I have the WR7DC plugs for $1.79 each
Bosch Rotors for $37.17 each
Bosch D/Caps for $47.95

Let me know if I can supply your parts?

Thanks Bill, good suggestions. I found Beck/Arnley ignition stuff at my local Advance Auto - looks exactly like OE Bosch & since they had it in stock I bought. I'll try the copper plugs, they had them as well. Plan on changing the stuff out this weekend - is there any special spark plug socket or attachment that makes it easier to change plugs?

Thanks,
Hawk
