Post What kind of stereo is in your shark?

My shark came without a stereo. I plan to have one installed in 2-3 weeks. I'll miss the sound of the engine whining everytime I go thru the gears. The car sounds more like a F-16 or flying HK out of the Terminator movies.

My girlfriend is just amazed when we drive around town in the shark. She comments about how the car has so much power that begs to be unleashed. I know the engine sound adds to the shock value when driving around a newcomer to sharks.

I was thinking of an Alpine system. What kind of stereo do you sport in your shark?

I have an older alpine 7845. I like the looks of that unit over all the new stuff that has lights flashing, etc... Plus if you go to e-bay you can pick up these units for under 100 bucks. Remember they were 500-600 bucks new. Mine sounds great and has a Ai-net cd shuttle connected and a alpine amp.

New Sony Xplode, with the face that tilts down so the cd tray can come out. I love it. Aluminum face matches the Jager accent pieces I bought.

Getting four new speakers, and the guy is cutting in a subwoofer and amp for me. This will be the first time I've had a top of the line aftermarket stereo in a car, and I am looking forward to it.

I have the worst stereo ever (some Denon thing that whines like a ****) so I won't be of any assistance there, except to say make sure it's grounded properly. However, your avatar is the best yet! (not to start another avatar flamewar) Is that your kid & cat? Is there a bigger pic? It's freakin' hilarious...

Some old Alpine cassette deck. Have a new Aiwa MP3/CD deck for it as soon as I have the rest of it fixed up and ready to run.

I've got an Aiwa MP3/CD player, the rest of the system (I think) is stock. Seems a bit underpowered, though.

The avatar is not of my kid or cat. I did have a real crazy cat like that, it disappeared one night and never came back

I'd like to get a flip out deck that can play DVD or atleast have video input so I can plug my nightvision camera directly into the deck.

I'm just worried that the more cash I spend on the stereo, the more likely it will get broken into and stolen. My brother spent thousands on his car stereos and in both cars they were stolen. Also in both times the person was on a crime sprees and got caught in the act breaking into my brothers car

Did you guys install the stereo yourself?
Which audio store do you trust to install it?

I already spoke to a couple of stereo dealers Audio Express and Ultimate Electronics. I know they BS you to get you to buy one ("Oh, we install Alpines in Porsches, Ferraris, and Lambos all the time"). I'll ask them when they last did a 928, what color it was and check my area of shark owners to see if thats true.

My Stereo is an old pull out Blaupunkt that was donated by a Scirocco 16 V I once owned. I cleverly removed the pull out lever and the housing to make it fit in the stock cutout of the dash in my car. I hate cutting the car up for stereo installations, and that includes the wiring.

There is nothing more frustrating than ripping into something which was "professionally installed" by some 17 year old kid at the stereo store.

I also have (4) 4x6 Clarion 2-way plate speakers to retrofit (soon) and I already installed a 6 1/2" 100w Bazooka.

I'm nervous about who can to touch my shark. I told the dude at UE that I don't want some kid that just got done with HS prom installing anything in my shark. They better be atleast 21 if you ask me!

I don't want my shark to break his 928 installation cherry. God forbid they screw something up and I have battery drain problems afterward.

I figure when it gets installed I'll sit in the passenger seat and just stare at him like Debo.

Sure I can program the computer but I just can't grasp the concept of connecting 10-12 wires! LOL. Or for the matter programing the coffee maker. Unless it has variables and a while(loop), or sessions, I just don't get it.

It depends on the type of sound you want to produce in your car. I wanted an image of a 5.1 surround system that an bose system produces because I like sound quality not just boom, boom, booooom.
So I put in a 1yr old Alpine CD Receiver that I had with (4,) 5 1/4 DB drive speed series (2 frnt\2back),500 amp DB drive speed series, one 10 DB drive subwoofer\db drive tight box for a tight bass. The most import part is your cabling... I replace all cables and jacks with monster speaker cable\RCA cables\ground cables\battery cables.

Now I get a good real good sound. It is better that being at the movies....

LOL! I had wired up the amp turn on wire from the head unit and forgot to reset the auto-on jumper to off. D'oh!

I'm going with a Nakamichi cd400 head unit. About 350-400 depending on source. It looks as close to stock as anything out there and has great sound. Not as reliable as some brands, however. The rest of the system is still in design.

Don't forget to dynomat!

My last 928 had all of the speakers replaced in their stock location, and had a subwoofer installed in the spare tire space. It was actually in side the spare tirw. Sounded great. Don't let some inexperienced stereo shop rip into your car. Make sure they do high end installs. I still can't understand how such a fine car like the 928 could come out of the factory with such a junk stereo system
