Convertible Rear Window Polish?
Well, it's starting to be 'top-up' driving conditions for my convertible 928, but the rear plastic window built into the canvas top has reached a state of minimal opacity.
The canvas top is still in great condition. Is there any product or technique that I can use to restore the transparency? The rear window in question is made of the typical flexible clear plastic employed in folding convertible tops.
Thanks for any leads.

1) Find a good automotive upholstery shop.
2) Have them replace the window.
3) Give them money.
4) Enjoy a better-looking, safer car.
I have had some luck with cleaner/waxes - but not much.

Hi Randy,
If the fog is not just on the surface, it may not be possible to clean it up. My 83 Mustang convertible uses a solid glass window. I got a new one from J.C. Whitney. I have also seen folding glass windows. Glass is a better solution than plastic. However, the convertible top material along the lower edge of the window will also deteriorate like the top material.
For surface problems, you can try Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze Professional Clear Plastic Cleaner. Number 17 (M-1708) is what I found to be available off the shelf of Autozone. It specifies that it removes fine or hairline scratches from convertible windows. In polishing instrument plastic, I have found it much more effective to use the cleaner 3 or 4 times before moving on to the polish. Finish with …Plastic Polish, number 10 (M-1008). This can possibly extend the life for a while.
There are other Meguiar’s formulas that might be more effective. If you want to find a help-line number, the bottles list locations in Irvine, CA and headquarters in Indianapolis, IN.

Thanks Thom - I'll check out what products are available at the local auto store.
That may be the best way to go Wally - however I'm thinkin' they'd have to completely remove the existing top to replace that back window. I'll ask my upholstery guy for his thoughts on this.
BTW Wally - didja get my email re. the fuel injector issue?
Anyone else have suggestions for corrective action on my plastic window?

Hi Randy,
Most of the Boxster owners seem to like Plexus, which is about $7 for a can at most motorcycle shops. You spray it on and work it in. Use a microfiber cloth for best results and to avoid scratches. I like it better than the Meguiar's clear plastic solutions, and I'm a Meguair's fan. If it doesn't work, go with Wally's suggestion.

Randy, don't overlook the "Marine Store" several good products I use on the side curtains for the Chris Craft. As you also know, they will be more expensive!

When I had my '68 Mustang ragtop, I tried just about everything...not much seemed to help. But technology has a way of changing. Check out carcareonline They have many products, and the expertise to go along with them.
