Default Vacuum under Passenger side Wheel

Hey guys.

Just noticed I had a tear in a vacuum line located under the passenger side wheel that was ripped. Upon further inspection I managed to break the nipple off the vacuum canister

What is this vacuum there for?
CanI plug the hoses and drive the car?

Do I need to install a new canister?

Also appears PO plugged line prior (see arrow in pic).

Thanks for the help
Shawn

That is your charcoal cannister. If you are not smelling any gas fumes I think it's no problem, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Jim.................charcoal cannister, BBQ anyone? Steaks; Chops.
All kidding aside; I assume that is a emmisions thing?

So would I leave that hose attached and just plug the single hose, or would I need to plug both hoses to close the vacuum?

You can just loop the two hose, bypass the canister and remove the leak!

Thanks IMO000oooooooooooooooooo.

Consider the hoses looped!

So what exactly are they for? Fuel system, fumes? Something along those lines.

I have always wondered about what the charcoal canister does, I have one on my TR6 and it is attached to the fuel tank.

I assume it is there to eliminate fumes from the fuel system?

Thanks!

Yep
Fuel tank breather is routed through the canister. Eliminates fuel smell, (don't know if it eliminates the actual vapours though). The vacuum reservoir is the "egg-box" thing in bay behind the left wheel .
