Default VIN/Option Code Decoder Program

All, I finally got tired of digging through my web bookmarks in order to find the sites with the VIN decoders and option codes listed. I got bored this morning, so I wrote a small program to decode the 928 VINs and option codes. Not sure if such a thing exists or not... Its written in ANSI C and supports all pre-1980, 1980-1995 VINS and all option codes [including the funky Z** ones]... I have it compiling/running in Linux and Windows.

It should be done by this weekend... inputting all the option codes is a bit tedious. As soon as I finish it, I'll post the link for the linux source/binary and the windows binary. If anyone out there is running a Mac [i imagine quite a few are], I don't mind supporting OSX. I just need remote access to a platform for which I can build on [PowerPC and x86].

...for those wondering, I am indeed a professional nerd....

Right on.....I wouldn't call you a nerd...since your WAY smarter than I am!!!

Are you going to link it to a website or will we have to download it?

Welcome to the nerd-ery!
So... to answer all the questions.

The VINs don't support all the option codes embedded... there are a couple hundred option codes. There are a few interesting bits embedded in the VIN, but not to the extent of the full option codes. The program will interpret all gazillion option codes and the full VIN [including those pre 1980]

So... at first, you'll have to download the program and run it locally. Eventually, I'll get around to porting it to run as a web interface [most likely a PERL cgi script]. Stay tuned for this one.

In the mean time, I finally finished importing all the option codes. I'll try to get the packages built and uploaded... will post here when they're ready

OK... finally got around to building the binary packages tonight. So... what we have is the following:
My completed `928codes` program that reads VINS and Option Codes [option codes can be read one by one or from a file]. I've uploaded three packages, a source package [only for those who can read makefiles and compile code], a Linux x86_64 binary and a Windows binary. [I assume most of you want the windows version]. The current version is listed as `0.1beta`. If you find any bugs in the code, want some upgrades, yadda yadda, open the README file... my email is in there... send me a note, and I'll update the code.

All three are free for download from my google code page:
http://code.google.com/p/928codes/downloads/list

Tell your friends!

Very nice. Have you found the option codes for interior colors? I haven't.

Hey I've wondered about that since I bought my S4 over 2 years ago. It has all the stickers with the interior trim codes but I've never been able to find any decode list on any of otherwise excellent 928 websites, or in books like David Hemming's which lists all other options. I just wanted to know what colour the leather was (linen I think).

The app looks great - thanks for creating such a useful resource. As A Mac user it would be great if you ever get round to porting to OSX, or create a web interface.
