Default My turquoise 1991 928S4 for sale

***** SOLD 10/19/2009*****

I am selling my 1991 928S4. I found it on Seattle Craigslist 2 years ago and there was a thread already started on this car before I bought it:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...1-for-11k.html

VIN: WP0AA2923MS810413

99xxx miles at this time.

As some of you may know, I have talked about putting this car on Ebay which is a very strong possibility. However, I have 2 local interested parties and a few other Rennlisters who have expressed interest, so here is a thread to describe my car and post some pics. Since I have to name a price I'll say $20k. If nothing happens here in a couple weeks on Ebay she goes. It should be said that I really enjoy trading for other wacky vehicles and especially motorcycles. Currency is kinda boring

This car was bought new 9-6-1991 at Vasek Polak in California. Owner # 1 kept it until 1/1997 and 55k miles and traded the car in. The 2nd owner bought it at that time and moved the car from California to Washington state.

Owner # 2 drove it about 35k miles until 2/10/2006 when he had an accident. As it was explained to me by the 2nd owner, he was on a 25 mph city street and a drunk driver was heading straight at him in his lane. Rather than take a head-on collision, he veered sharply to the right and jumped the sidewalk and skewered a small metal sign post with his car. Naturally, the other driver carried on.

The car was undriveable at that point. The front bumper was damaged, the hood was askew and the radiator/oil cooler were toast however the airbags did not deploy. Here is the Carfax accident report (that is the only negative on the Carfax report) and a couple pics of the car as I bought it:

02/10/2006 Washington
Police Report
Case #2290425 Accident reported
in Snohomish County
Vehicle involved in crash
with a fixed object

He towed it home to his garage and did not make an insurance claim. I bought the car 1 year later and it showed 91k miles. Other than the owner removing the damaged radiator, oil cooler and spoiler he had not touched it.

I had my friend's shop, Haury's Collision http://www.hauryscollision.com/ repair the body. The suspension or frame was not damaged. I ended up having both front fenders, the hood and front bumper cover resprayed in the factory color, turquoise metallic, paint code # 923. The bumper cover was not punctured or torn so I re-used it although I had the license plate holes filled in. I bought a new inner bumper "egg crate", a brand new spoiler, new front inner wheel well liners, a new aluminum engine under tray, etc. And hey if you leave it registered in WA state you can keep my cool decal which is a perfect reproduction of the front license plate only in 2 dimensions instead of 3.

From 928 Int. I sourced a perfect used radiator from a wrecked 30k mile 'S4. I bought a new oem oil cooler and mounting bracket which also serves as the main spoiler mount if memory serves. I also sourced a used cooling fan shroud from 928 Int. that turned out to have 2 slightly damaged upper mounting holes. It was easy to fab up some slightly larger washers and such in order to use this shroud so thats what I did. It fits/works flawlessly otherwise and only the most eagle eye among us would ever notice.

I also replaced the fog/driving light assemblies with new units at this time even though they were not damaged in the crash. Can't have pesky dings and cracks you know.

Mechanically, I did everything within reason to make this the best driving S4 I could. After spending hours on Rennlist, I jumped in. Between myself, Ralli-Round, Gerber Motorsport, Group 2 Inc., Leif Johnson, Tom Middleton, etc., there isn't much left to do. A lot of the things I did just for the heck of it because I am disturbed. Everything listed below was done within the last 8k miles unlesss otherwise noted.

~New timing belt, water pump, all front engine/cam/crank/oil pump seals, tensioner rebuild, accessory belts.

~New oil pan gasket. While I did this I inspected the crankshaft and checked the endplay. The crank looked beautiful and the endplay was well within spec.

~New solid motor mounts from Roger.

~New aluminum main engine undertray from 928 Int. The other shield (behind the main undertray, more towards the rear of the car) had not been damaged in the accident. However there were one or two broken spot welds that secure the shield to the mounting brackets due to age and/or vibration. I repaired these with a tried and true method involving nuts, bolts, washers and a drill. Good as new.

~New distrubutor caps and rotors.

~New spark plugs.

~New air/fuel filters.

~New oil pressure sending unit.

~New steering rack.

~New power steering pump and lines.

~New alternator and battery.

~New O2 sensor.

~New/rebuilt torque tube from 928 Int.

~Resealed torque converter and new bearings.

~New trans fluid/filter and gasket.

~New axle boots, all 4.

~New differential output shaft seals and fluid.

~New Bilstein HD shocks/struts.

~New brake fluid (the brake pads/rotors looked they had just been done).

~PSD service/new fluid.

~Repacked front wheel bearings.

~AC leaks repaired, lines replaced and fresh refrigerant.

~New catless X-pipe from 928 Motorsports, D. Lomas. Removed air pump as well.

~New Kumho front tires and fresh alignment 25 miles ago. The matching rear tires have 5k miles. Oh and I sourced mint OEM 1995 928GTS 17" rims from another Rennlister and disabled the factory low tire pressure gizmo.

~All new dash/pod bulbs.

~New rear hatch seal.

~New sport shifter and leather boot.

~New courtesy door light switches.

~New driver and passenger window rollers to tighten things up.

~New driver and passenger door check gizmos.

~New glovebox door shock absorber thingie.

Negatives:

~The vacuum thing at the end of the orange line is toast. I plugged the line and bought a new thingie but have not been brave enough to change it out.

~5 out of 10 of the stock speaker trim rings are cracked. The main one in the right rear falls off sometimes.

~The radio was "upgraded" to a POS Panasonic which does indeed produce sound. Oh and there is a very nicely made custom amplifier inside the spare tire, yippee. I do have an OEM CR-1 head unit that was removed from a 1992 964 C2 that is included with the car.

~I do not have the window shade thing that is supposed to cover the rear luggage area.

~The driver side left seat bolster is showing some wear.

~I don't think the headlight washers work.

~A couple of the tools are missing from the kit.

~The orange color on the clock hands is fading.

~The light in the headlight on/off switch does not work.

~The base of the radio antenna has a small crack.

~The left rear inner fender liner has some cracks.

This car runs, drives and looks great. I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed if they were looking for a nicely sorted 'S4 auto. I just had it professionally detailed. Included are the spare tire, air compressor kit, 2 factory keys, owner's manual and pouch, cargo net (not the shade) and a scary stack of records generated by me in the last 2 years. The warranty and maintenance booklet is stamped 6 times. Once for the initial delivery at Vasek Polak and 5 more times for services. I also noticed a timing belt R/R sticker under the hood when I was fooling around in there so it was changed once before I did it.

FWIW, this car turned out pretty much exactly as I had hoped. My reasons for selling are the arrival of a spanky 993 C2 and an E36 M3, so this little pup moves on. I just had the oil changed and this car is ready to drive anywhere.

Just got off the phone with Dan a Rennlister who may wish to trade in one of his cars. My 'S4 is now on hold for him until further notice.

Thanks to all and this great forum

I love the color - awesome car.

One of the many things I love about the 928, it's unique lines looks good in colors that are odd on other cars. A 944 in this color would look downright strange. On a 928 it's perfect!
