86.5 Auto Transmission / Rear Suspension Removal
Code Enforcement has caught up with my backyard parts stash and I am forced to accellerate the parting of a wrecked 86.5. I have hit a snag in removing the rear suspension/transmission/torque tube as a unit.
Motor has already been pulled.
All hose, wire and cable and brake connections disconnected.
Torque tube free to engine compartment.
Struts disconnected.
Drop links disconnected.
Link Bearings (where control arm mounts to frame) disconnected.
4 bolts on ends (2ea. side) of rear crossmember removed.
And nothing, lowering the jack under the rear crossmember does nothing except lower the jack. Suspension is free on both sides. Am I missing a bolt(s) on the crossmember? I have the WSM but my crossmember doesn't look the same as the one they are picturing. I have looked the crossmember and suspension over several times and cannot see any more bolts to the frame.
I have the rear of the car high enough so that the rear tires can clear when rolling out. Front is pitched down. Could there be a mechanical lock because not level?
Thanks in advance.

Did you take the a bolt out of each of the two transmission mounts?
Is the cross member hitting the little white fill tank on the transmission?
Are the front trailing arm bushings wedged a bit into their mounts and need a tire iron pry job?

No, sorry, I missed something as usual, this time big.
Just 10 minutes ago crawled out from under one. Am taking it down in two pieces and was focused on that and not reading.

I may do that now just to cut my problem in half. The Special Tool for holding the transmission up when removing crossmember looks a little complicated though.

Going back to your original post, and READING IT finally, I question if you got the two inboard bolts, near the tranny mount bolts, that connect the crossmember to the car.
One on each side.
One on each side.

By inboard, do you mean the two gigantic bolts I just found after posting this question? If so, then yes, I have found them but cannot remove them until tomorrow.

This wont stop the rear X member from coming out, but did you remove the emergency brake cable from the back side of the E brake handle, then twist the housing from the chassis?
PB blaster will help the fitting to come out of the chassis
