I bought the Highwayman edition of Excellence as well and its been in my first floor powderroom since new. I have always considered it my holy grail of 928 reading. I must have read it hundreds of times. Unfortunately it was tossed when we moved 2 years ago. I'd love to replace it.

Lets try this again...
Broken 6 cwt Cranks, cracked blocks, 9000 rpm dyno overruns, valve train failures, lack of airflow, seat failures, multiple engine and other system faiiures and one engineer trying to make it work at levels never done prior. That engineer was Bob and along with the DEVEK team, began to define the problems, identify potential solutions, test theory, identify key SME's and suppliers and begin solving the problems!
I guess we all see a different side of a person...I got to see the frustration that drove a man to take control of projects himself, start a company that innovates, and sell products that perform as advertised and is grounded in solid engineering based design. And when something works and can be validated, sell a few products in the process too! Bob was an amazing person and our 928 mentor!
So in closing, Bud is right...that racer looks totally kick butt and the proof will be in the pudding, so to speak, so lets keep on topic and Jason and Bud, good luck making it the next noteworthy 928!

I find much of this "Bob and I were great friends " or best yet "He told me that he repeatedly told the reporter about who did the work on his car and where it was done but somehow it didn't get into print." to be totally BS. You know why it never made it to print, if Bob wanted it so, he would have done it...he was a VP at Intel...he did not make mistakes!!!
Bob is the DEV in DEVEK and he started it for a reason...and it was not because of all the "heros, guru's and friends" testaments as so noted.
State your facts, not opinions and wishes, and life moves on smoothly. Marketing yourself, your ego or your services off a legand is one way to gain credibility, I guess.
I suggest you keep the thread on the Jasons racer, and remove all others out of respect for Bob.

Sorry Marc but I don't think you can limit our warm reminissing of Bob. This post has done more to foster his memories in a good light than you have in the last 3 years.

It sounds like Bud is just on here reminiscing about the old days, and sharing some cool stories and sharing some of his 928 experiences. He's not trying to sell anything, and has already said he is out of the 928 game. I don't see any reason to attack him for that. I mean heck, at least we have someone who was there at the dyno run of that car, to give us the numbers, and how they were achieved. Something many people on this board have asked about for years, and no one had any solid information. So at least he's here sharing some *positive* stories and information.

Damn Marc,
Economy getting to you? Bud Hart has been known in the 928 circles for longer than most of us have dreamed of owning one.

Marc,
Wow, did someone s**t in your cornflakes this morning or what? In no way am I ".....marketing myself, my ego or my services off a legend.........", to quote your thread. Bob Devore was a VERY good friend, confidant and client, as well as being my "Big Boss" at Intel - even before he acquired the VP title.
A little history:
In 1987 I owned and operated a small Porsche repair/race shop in Santa Clara, CA. After performing the initial modifications to his 928, Bob hired me to come and work at Intel because I was an inventive "nut & bolt" guy who had a knack for souping things up. I used that gift very successfully on the production equipment in Chandler, AZ. We were fellow converts from the Corvette camp who came to Porsche and never looked back. I built up his pure stock 928 with the first 5.7L engine, suspension and brake mods, and then on to the 6.4L engine that became the "legendary benchmark engine" as some put it. Away from Intel we never talked shop and at Intel we never talked Porsche. Simple as that. No conflict. Bob was VERY specific about that so we could keep our jobs. Smart, smart man.
Now, what part of my previous thread ........ "Before I run out of wind, I would like to give the fullest measure of credit to my good friend and fellow devotee, the late Bob Devore. He gave me the green light to take his desire and his 1978 928 and turn them into the "Arizona Highwayman". We worked very long hours - days and many nights - to produce a highly competitive car, a unique car for that time period. Bob was a "techno-junkie" who was very devoted to his passion. It was the only thing that put a smile on his face. I was fortunate enough to be chosen to help him fulfill his dream. We should all be so lucky..........." can be construed as promotional or boastful? Where is there any solicitation or self-aggrandizement? As lots of Porsche folks know, I've been out of the game since 1996, except for Jason's Red Car. I do believe my stated respect for Bob Devore is clear and concise.
I make no appologies for my history or background whether it offends anyone or not. Life is far to short to dwell on negative nonsense. Your extremely negative thread is not appreciated on a positive forum like this. Sorry to burst your bubble, chum.
Have a better day...........

I guess if your name is not part of "Dev-ek", then Marc thinks you can't take any credit for anything done on that car... Personally, I don't care if you worked on it or not. I like the fact that you are sharing useful and interesting information without an agenda...

To All,
I do agree with Marc about keeping this thread on the Jasons racecar. When you folks see it, you'll be amazed. It's going to WOW a lot of people - and when he tools that chariot around the track, it'll showcase not just the car but his extraordinary driving talents.

Bye for now,
Ed

Tom,
Love to have you guys come out to "God's Country". Down in town there's a neat little cafe called "Shirley's" at 6th & Lincoln (101) right across the street from the Goodwill parking lot - room enough for buku 928's. That would certailnly WOW the socks off folks around here. Porsches are rare in this country and 928's are unknown. What a parade that would make! An awesome photo op would be out at Lake Crescent Lodge - right on the water. Spectacular!
Wait 'til the HC bridge is open & we'll set something up.

Hello all, just thought I would chime in an update on the 928. A lot has been going on in my racing career and life (married). I have just finished the new shop at the new house and am close to a point where I can continue progress on the Red Rocket. Attached is a picture of the car in the new shop, if there are any local folks who would like to stop by and check it out feel free to shoot me an email and I will let you know when I am around. Be great, J
