Default New 928 Prototype

Any body seen the April 09 issue of AutoCar magazine from the UK ?? Porsche is doodling and has let AutoCar print some pics of the next gen 3 door GT. At least 4 drawings are on the cover and in the magazine.

Cool

and here's the pic...

The side treatment kinda has a Corvette/Viper influence though.

I would like if they could go with a more 928 look. This look just look like any other porsche... What I liked of the 928 was its really unique look.

The front driveshaft actually runs through the engine block, clearing the crank by just 1.5mm; this allows the engine to sit very low in the nose. A cert for the 928.

They could do some retro-futuriste phone dial wheel. Would be cool.

Ah, there's an opening for the aftermarket parts developers.

Anyway, I hope it happens and hope it's called a 928 or some derivative thereof even if there is no way I could afford it. Thank Ferdi the old ones got so cheap to buy.

Porsche is not going to make the same "mistake" they did back in 1978. This time around, the "928" will look like the rest of the family.

Picture a 911 humping a boxster and I'm pretty sure you will have the new "flagship".

Porsche copied the headlights from the Miura the first time around, why not the new one?

Panamera front. DB-9 / AM V8 V rear.

Don't hold your breath for any 928 heritage to show up. Porsche does not want to be reminded that 35 years ago they engineering a car better than anything else they would come up with for the next few decades (or perhaps ever) and then actively undermined its success because of fear of change.

It looks to be a shorter version of the Panamera. Headlights, side sculpting etc. The roof line fits on this version better than on the Panamera.
Porsche can not call it the "928" as this is the internal designator for the model. As we get closer to the end of this "997" "998" "999" they could call it the "1000" but I doubt they would wait that long. I would suspect they would hold off on the "1000" for a new introduction as in maybe a hybrid or all electric.

I have no doubt it will come sooner or later. I also have no doubt it will look nothing like a 928, and will not be named 928, either.

Porsche has a history of making derivatives of its models, to get the most out of the components they engineered. Since they developed the Panamera platform on their own, they need to milk it with such derivative models.

The question is whether they will build a cabriolet or a coupe first. Another question is what engines will be available, given the CO2 fleet limits in Europe, and the new new fuel efficiency standards set by our current administration.
