I'm currently a PalmOS user [Centro]... but I've been eagerly awaiting more companies to support the Google Android OS. I've been tempted to hack my way into a T-Mobile G1 on Cingular. Android is much more open [from a development perspective] than the IPhone. [although the iphone certainly leads the pack in 'cool factor'].

Why don't they make a phone that runs Irix 6.5.30?

Net books are the deal. I bought one for tuning my megasquirt conversion and it is working great, very good battery life, wireless out of the box. I have surendered the use of the home PC to the wife and kid, the netbook is all I use now.

Mine are US 83 and Euro 85, not sure the Sharktuner speaks the ancient dialects.

OK, let's take this a step further - I've been intrigued by the idea of someone, someday, offering REMOTE Sharktuning service. With a WiFi capable laptop plugged into the car, and the car running on a load dyno at a shop with WiFi, is there not software readily available that would allow Jim, or Louie, or Murf, or any other Sharktuning expert to remotely access the laptop and tune the car??? (Perhaps a new thread to discuss this?)

I was, but then bought a ST2.

The iPhone App is cool, I have to say, but sadly will not work on our stuff. There are a few smartphones that run Windows Mobile I beleive. I think you'd be able to hook that up to the STer - if you wanted - but damn it's be tough to read.

I use a 10" laptop that converts to a tablet PC. Works just fine.

Windows Mobile is a different animal, and not compatible with regular Window app's like Sharktuner. It is always nice if systems can run on multiple platforms, but that requires a lot more effort. The reality is that ours is a pretty small market, the good news is that Sharktuner is a very capable tool. So building on that-- and sticking with Windows-- makes the most sense.

We bought a 9" Asus Eee 900-series netbook as a mobile computer, similar to Ken's. Battery life is 3-4 hours but mostly runs on a 12v adaptor. The keyboard is small for my fat fingers but it's not used much for typing. And the screen is plenty big for Sharktuner, checking email, etc. We ran ST2 all the way to OCIC and back, it was completely stable and it was great to keep an eye on things as altitude went from zero to 7500', fuel octane went from 92 to 90 to 93 (the EZK got a workout), etc.

There's a couple of directions to go from here. One is the issue that Jarrod raised: OK I've got the WBO2/ST2 hooked up, what next? There is some good info there, what is needed is more documentation and discussion-- the separate thread that Jarrod suggested. I've promised John a Sharkplotter how-to thread and will get that started in the next few days.

The second issue is how to integrate the data that ST2 extracts from the LH/EZK with other data, and with a "dashboard" application such as Logworks or perhaps a custom app. I've got some ideas on that, and I'll think we can get there but it is going to take some time. (ST2 needs to be in the loop because we want the load signals used by the LH and EZK, and we really want to know what the EZK's individual cylinder knock retards are doing).

If one were to write a simple TCP interface to sharktuner, we could accomplish just about anything. Given a simple TCP-server app, a client sharktuner could attach remotely and monitor/tune whatever you need. There would be an obvious latency depending on the connection specifics, but its certainly possible.

May I suggest a cross platform client [ie, GTK-ish for Linux/Windows/Mac]?

For those who are security minded [or outright paranoid like me], you could easily pipe the connection across an SSH tunnel in order to ensure privacy and security.

I wouldn't mind participating in writing such as app if the opportunity presented itself.

Wow, I totally forgot about this, sorry. Here's the pic. No annoying running out of batteries because I installed an adustable power supply that can output up to 22V. You don't have to put it on a seat or the floor and I can just use the stylus or my fingernail to switch screens and make adjustments without moving in my seat at all. And it's small enough to fit in the glove box.
