What a crash!!!...man im glad you came out alright!
I was at a shop a bit ago that restores Bugatti's, thier were about 6 vintage racers, got to learn alot about thier history....and almost all have been in terrible crashes and were restored and raced again...some showed thier battle scars under thier skins and others didnt.
I think your car desirves to be restored and raced again....please dont gut it like a honda with a good motor. i know it will be the cash that dictates the final outcome...best of luck to you

Yeah....a skinny guy like you MIGHT fit in the car amonst the tubes! I will say this, if you are going to start from scratch, and are going to continue hard racing in the car.....ONE HUNDRED AND TEN PERCENT....make sure the cage is MUCH stronger/better than you last one. Modern cages are like an art form, and are a must if racing in something like SCCA.
Take it easy and don't stress too much!

I am not sure if I understand how you want to build the cage, might misinterpret.
IMHO it is a good thing that the body of the car crumbles as long as there is a cage built around the driver. For every little bit of energy that goes through the body of the car and weakens it the less energy is forwarded to the driver.
Might be a shame that a car is all crushed but I'd rather have as much cushion as possible and the energy has to go somewhere.

By adding a bar to the location I am refering to, I would be trying to prevent the sideways buckelling which could send the drivers head towards the roof or window.

Mark,
A couple of thoughts to raise some cash for Holbert II.
Put a DVD together of your race videos along with any Porsche Holbert record run videos.
If the car can't be repaired and Porsche doesn't want it then cut it up into small pieces to sell along with a nice picture of the car. These could then be mounted together as a 928 keepsake.
Maybe get Paul to do a plaque something like:
Record setting 1987 Porsche 928 driver Al Holbert clocked 171 MPH at Bonneville Salt Flats, 7 August 1986. Car crashed at Sears Point Infinion Raceway 5 September 2009.
I for one would make a donation for either one.
My 928 cents worth.
