Default Sears Point -Infinion Raceway 9-09 UPDATE/RESULTs HOLBERT CAR DESTROYED BY CIVIC.

Double race weekend coming up this Friday! Race at 10am Saturday and 11am on Sunday.

We have a pretty packed field so far and Laguna Seca is only 2 weeks away .(3 race regional, with the porsches coming down from Washington/Oregon).
If anyone wants to come out racing at laguna without sound requirements, this is your weekend!

Great to have a few 928 pals out there as usual. We might be on the lean and mean program this weekend. Normally, we pal around and take shelter with our C5 racer buddy, but he has written off the season due to finances. Scot and I will probably be camping at the track.

So far this entire season has been camping and racing. Entry fees and gas. That has been it all season.

cant wait to try the used/new hoosiers this weekend and compare them yet again to the Toyos and also see how the extended splitter works!

We'll see....

Look like there will be a really packed field for the race. just saw the entries. another turbocharged NSX from Drivingambition as well as the RX7 that hit me the last time I was there, as well as the Griggs Mustang, PTG style M3, T1 corvette C5, blown S2000, vipers, monster camaro, GT3cup, and a bunch of others.

Quick Saturday recap.......the turbo NSX blew an axle and had to drop out.....then the 2nd place RX7 ran out of gas and the Griggs monster mustang lost all gears but 3rd, but still managed 2nd place overall with Kibort right behind in 3rd......a very nice E46 M3, full race won...... I guess the custom NASCAR transmission has a hard time keeping up?? Rumor has it that its a real Hewland transmission (think MAJOR $$$)....I heard $20k to rebuild it....OUCH....especially when it only seems to last about as long as a 928 tranny....this car is less than 1 full season old...

Just in time for qualifing the NSX got fixed and ripped off and INSANE 1:37 or something lap time (as a reference Anderson best time is around high 1:39).....crazy fast...then promptly went back to the pits on his "replacement" axle.....My guess is MK qualified 4th or so for Sundays race...since he did put down a low 1:48.....

Yes but my 1:39 was run on the third Sunday of the second quarter which is like a 2 second difference given that the air density is a know disadvantage.

true....but the NSX puts down some quick lap times due to added boost, but still managed to break a Porsche axle (they installed since its stronger than the NSX part).....It didn't finish the 1st sprint race, but I don't know about the Sunday race

But, no really its true. The air density is really different. I would call it a 3 second disadvantage though, worse if its a leap year, and your car is white.

Default HOLBERT CAR DESTROYED BY 3x LAPPED CIVIC

The good the bad and the ugly;

First, the race weekend started off with a lot of great racing. Brian already mentioned the first race. I got stacked up at the start behind the viper, and a couple of cars got by. finally, caught up to randy in the camaro, passed him and actually caught the 700hp griggs mustang, who's trannie broke and only had 4th gear. we battled for awhile and then he figured out how to make his near ave hp work, as the cars aero and brakes allow him to get back in front down the carocel. Caught up to the viper and had a great race with it, and on the final lap, made a run for the finish, scot was getting lapped and just lost (not in class though) to the viper at the checker by .005 seconds. Ended up 3rd.

Second race started out great, with a better qualifying position. the mustang with a transmission (Darrel Anderson) had to use his dads 425hp griggs II mustang on brand new sticker Hoosier A6s, so I knew we were going to have some fun. track was really greasy, so times were off a bit. (1:48.1). I got a great start and was in second for a few laps, going back and forth with the PTG style BMW, with the Mustang and RX7 behind. the faster RX7 TT got by as well as finally the BMW, (and Rylan in the blown S2000 and his new crank'ed engine, so it was the mustang and me for about 10laps. I had the power, he had the handling. braking was near the same.

The BAD: Last lap, no white flag or 1 finger given, so im still going hot, even though I have a 1 turn lead over Anderson in the mustang, after a great nose to tail battle for about 20min. (that was fun!), I come out of turn 8A (the "S"s at Sears) and there is the Honda that we have lapped 3 times already. I take the exit, see a point by with a closure rate of about 50mph, and just as im on his rear bumper, he loses his rear end and gets sideways and darts across the track. I try to turn right to avoid hitting him straight on, and hit his front right wheel and the impact is great. now we both are going to the wall, me at near 100mph. I see the wall coming up and the only thing I can think is, " I dont have my head restraint on and this is waay to fast to be hitting a wall at this angle" So, I clinch up for the impact like im trying to do a 500lb squat, and BOOM! its over quick. Thank god for the tires. Move the wall back a few feet . My head get wrenched forward. blurry vision, but i can move my head around. hands and toes working, so Im ok!! (thats part of the good news above) I jump out of the car to see the once beatuful Holbert car, completely destroyed! I felt like I was 8 and my puppy just got ran over by a car.

Totally senseless. The other guy is still in the car, a little more shaken up, but his car is a mess. He came over later appologse, and what could I say. All I could muster was, "Hey, things happen. Thats racing."

The Ugly: see below
