Default Help with 89 S4 from Japan..! Wiring Diagram anybody?

Hello,
I have a 928 S4 Auto 1989 from Japan that has an issue with the Cat temp.
As soon as the car is started it flashes on the speedo: Cat Temp too high...
The car has a double set of cat sensors at the back of the cat that mysteriously disappear into the car...
Cant find the wiring diagram in my workshop manuals.
Missing....
Does anyone have that?
Please advice.
Cheers, Michael

Yes Vol VII of the WSM for MY89. You need to buy the WSM CD-ROM set from Roger Tyson, 928sRus

Thx so much!
We finally sorted it....!
Very unique this Japanese system.
Nice to drive it again without that red light dancing on my face every moment!
You guys are invaluable....

May I ask what you did to eliminate the flashing red "CAT" light?

Fuse or bulb removal would be easiest Mike.

Has your car had the CAT removal surgery done?. If not I thoroughly recommend the X-pipe, GT resonators with GT rear muffler. Best of all worlds IMHO.

Never thought of the bulb removal...Thanks Malcolm. I wonder if I can reach up there with out pulling the pod?

I do have the x-pipe which makes the flashing red "cat" light even more bizarre as there are no cats!

Micheal,

I own an 89 S4 ROW imported from Japan. This message appeared from time to time. My air pump was disconnected and the CATs ran quite hot. I rebuilt the pump and put it back to service. I no longer get this message.

This may not be relevant to your problem but may give you a clue on how to end the CAT TEMP TOO HIGH message. I used to have a tire pressure warning message when starting the car (my sensors are disabled). I managed to put an end to it by using the following procedure:

http://www.928.org.uk/resources/75-i...ng-system.html

There is certainly a way to end your warning message with a similar procedure. It's matter of finding the box that manages it.

Mike,

Pulling the pod is easier than you think. I takes about 10 minutes to get to the circuit board that hold the bulbs. Take this opportunity to change the unserviceable bulbs...

Thanks for the ideas Michel...I would rather not pull the pod...again, but if I have to I will. I already gutted her once

One can unscrew the gland nuts holding the two thermistors in the CAT's rear end, pull the ~50mm long elements and safety wire them up out of harms way: seal the thermal wells with two caps .... & drive on.

I experimented with CAT bypasses on my '88 Japan model, and left both sensors hanging to read ambient temp - never a problem.
