Default 928 Periodic Inspection checklist by Dave Chamberland

Dave Chamberland (aka Worf) did one of the Tech Sessions at Frenzy 13 on inspecting a 928 (pre-, post- routine) which I found very helpful. We all got a handout of the basic checklist, and the manual he produced - 41 pages with excellent illustrations! - is now available for download (see link in the FRENZY 13 thread, post #213). This should be in everyone's tech file. It is professionally done and thorough, and a great reference work. Many thanks, Dave!

In my opinion, David is one of the top ten 928 techs...

Thanks Dave. This is something I've been casually doing as "remedial deferred maintenance" from the last couple of owners just let it deteriorate.

Very nice. That's a lot of work.

Note that on page 31, it says that flexplate issues are unique to '87-up automatics. The circlip and shims were deleted in '85, so '85-'86 are vulnerable, too. Any automatic '78-'84 should be checked, if the torque tube has ever been disconnected.

Folks, thanks for the kind words.

The write-up was a rush job so, there'll be plenty of mistakes for yaw'll to find.

Wally - you probably jinxed me. Something in the garage is going to blow up now.

I don't mind making that correction (despite the fact that I really don't want folks to think they can use every bit of that write-up for pre-87s.) But, in the interests of not creating another bug as a result of a bug-fix...

Are we (the Royal Rennlist We) sure about the circlip deletion post-84? Didn't I see some folks say that they'd found them on S3s and some that hadn't?

Great write-up and tech session. Thanks!

My 85 and 86 do not have circlips, nor shafts to allow them. They are cars with few owners, 70K miles or so, and appear to have orignal setups and not opened up before, based on wax coatings and the like.

The late 84 auto I have doesn't have circlips either. But its because somebody left them off. The shaft is able to accept circlips on that car.

High praise there Worf!

I for one would like to know who else made Wally's top 10 list. I'm sure we all probably know a few of them but come on Wally, let's see the list!
