Default eBay: Genuine 928 ski racks

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=150381901089

I've not seen roof mount racks before. I have two sets of hatch mount ones myself.

Here is a pic of the Factory Roof Rack. Mounts the same as the Ski Rack, but has beefier cross bars to carry more of a load. This one is shown with the optional Bike Adapters and a Thule case.

We sold the heck of these for many years and they work great.

If you open your hatch and look up near the front of the opening and you can see the factory mounting holes for the rear of the rack.

If you open up your doors you will see the alignment points for the front rack section just at the top of the a-pillar.

Curious, the PET part # is 928 801 055 02. I wonder where they get that part #? Wonder if they'd fit surfboards?

I have one of those with the bike adapter. JE928 sold them to me before leaving for Germany a few years ago.

I though this was the basic rack. Skiing no, biking yes.

I'm thinking about this and then picking up the bike kit DR spoke about.

My PET doesn't show the part number listed in the eBay ad. Does anyone know what model years this particular rack is for?

I'd get it just for the novelty - and why not? My dad used to take me skiing in his Opel GT!

I got one of those off ebay a few years ago. Still use it. It's nice to have
in case I need to carry something extra that doesn't fit in the car...

If you are talking about adding the bike adapters to the ski rack on Ebay I wouldn't recommend it. The cross bars on the ski rack versions are pretty wimpy (note the front one has a cross rod to add strenght) and even more so once you take off the hinged ski "clamp" part. You will also have to do some mods for the bike adapter to fit the cross bars.

If you are planning to do bikes I would recommend finding one of the basic rack systems. It is designed for the bke adapters to slip right on and will handle the weight and stress from the bikes up in the airstream.

Here are some close up pics of how they mount and a pic of the basic rack system. Note the size of the cross bars as compared to the ski rack version.
