There have been a couple of posts on this subject over the past year, but we haven't found a source/solution yet. I have been corresponding with Jerry Feather - a multiple 928 owner in CO who has been doing some plastic development work on the rear hatch receiver insert. He was looking for other possible projects, so I suggested this rear quarter panel fender liner - which was OE on the '91-95 cars, but was made of lousy material, thus seems to fall apart when removed.
Jerry has some interest in this, but would like to see the original item - either in person, or through pictures. He has given me permission to post his private communication to me on this Rennlist Forum. We both hope something might come of the posting, and his interest. His e-mail follows my signature. PLEASE contact him directly if you have a used liner he could see, or a picture to at least advance the prospects. At this point ,at least, it would help if I had just a picture of one or a few pictures, if that might be possible. I can take measurements off of one of my cars, at least for the earlier version, and can perhaps make some more progress in the design of a forming contraption to make some of these. Don't have a liner to donate cause ours is falling apart like they all do!!!
But please make this happen Jerry, you'd have interest from all '91-95 owners I'd think!

PS: I've also wondered if the '87 - 90 owners might also be interested in a retrofit of these fender liners. Quiets tire noise, protects the right rear running light from so much corrosion, etc.

Yes Heinrich, it was Dan, and I've been in touch with him about this. His are still in LA - with another possible reproduction site, but nothing seems to have happened in a few months. Might be a possibility.

I am not sure the liners for the 91 are the same for the GTS. I have a NOS set for the GTS quarters I have put on the car. I pinged Greg Brown regarding status with the plastics shop next to his in Calif. When I was there for Sharktoberfest the plastics people were interested in the project just looking for some time to model the liners to make molds. Seems to be time consuming.
Regardless who does it I am willing to donate my new liners in exchange for a couple sets of the plastic ones, if they fit perfect.

Do these have to be made out of plastic? I would assume these would be easy to make a plug from, and have the finished product made of fiberglass. If the fiberglass or whatever fabric was used with a quality epoxy resin, and the finished product coated with a resilient material like rubberized under-body spray, I think these would look sharp, and hold up well.
There would be no expensive tooling costs and there are plenty of fiberglass guys out there looking for business now.

FG sounds like a good idea but I would be concerned about the thin rolled lip you can see in the forefront of the pic of the fender liner. Don't get me wrong I love FG and the idea of spraying it with a ruberized bedliner type of material sounds good.

I'm guessing that's the right side fender liner. I got the left one from Roger a few weeks ago and although it has the correct part number, it's not got the width to fit the GTS fenders, it's an inch or two short of reaching the inner rolled lip of the fender and also doesn't reach up into the top of the fender well like the original.

I found this link for flexible fiberglass resin a while back.

The left side liner seems to be made for the later S4/GT 90 through 91 and as already pointed out does not quite fit the larger GTS fender.
I already have this queried with Porsche NA but their wheels turn very very slowly. They just want it returned as warranty issue, however that does not solve the problem. Herman, How was the fit of the right side liner?? Both liners are available again in Germany as allready reported and they are new stock not NOS. Gary, I may consider supplying two liners to Jerry for his project. I assume they would not be destroyed in the process. Roger

My neighbor is still going to build the molds and make the liners out of "bulletproof" urethane, like used on front bumpers. He'll start them around Christmas time....we should have "product" by the beginning of next year. He's going to make fiberglass molds. Once the molds are made he can make as many liners as we want. The beauty of urethane is that they will not fall apart, like the factory liners do.
Anytime a mold is made, the liners used are going to be destroyed....and they need perfect liners to start with....to get perfect copies. If anyone has a set of perfect '90/'91 liners that they want to donate, that would save a bunch of money. Roger, we should talk about this...I've got the guy to do this and he has the material and the injection molding machines...15 feet from my back door. His work is very good. The economics of making them isn't all that good...unless you can sell a bunch of pairs, to help pay for the molds. This is really not "my cup of tea" and I'd be really happy if someone else wanted to market them and get a bunch of people to commit to buying.
