Default Blaupunkt Bremen or Hamburg (or Eclipse?)

I'd like to upgrade my stereo to something current. I'm really looking for the Bluetooth integration, but also would like some of the new MP3 features as well.

Being a Porsche, I'd like to go with the new top-of-the-line Blaupunkt, the Bremen MP78. However, it was panned in the one online review I found on Amazon. The review claims it has a bad user interface, which I find hard to believe. The old Blaupunkts had great, simple controls and layouts - I loved my Blaupunkt in the late 1980s.

Anyway, the Bremen is an expensive unit - $600 - and doesn't seem to offer much above the next model down, the Hamburg MP68.

I might consider straying from Blaupunkt, but I've never cared for the appearance of the other popular makes - Pioneer, Alpine, and Kenwood.

The only other one I think is interesting is the Eclipse CD5030. Seems to be a little more basic, but includes an amp, Bluetooth integration, and USB connectivity (but no memory card reader).

I'm not a big car stereo guy. Just want to keep it simple with a receiver, no external amps, subwoofers, etc. Want decent sound, decent user interface, and some cool features, like Bluetooth.

Any thoughts?

Take a look at Clarion too, seems to have what your looking for: bluetooth, usb, basic looking appearance, and half the price of the Bremen.

I am trying to keep my 84 928 as stock looking as I can. but I also need to replace my radio.

I am considering the Blaupunkt Dearborne. it looks very much like the older monterys with cassette and is a direct replacement for the monterys, using the OEM amp. when talking to the guy at SW stereo, they can upgrade it for an Ipod/MP3 interface for an extra $100. did not ask about bluetooth.

may not be enough for those pursuing premature deafness......

one of my life ambitions is to die without ever having a blinking bluetooth widget stuck into my ear or have a blackberry. my resistance to too much technology is ironic considering I have been in IT for 35 yrs and currently a network engineer supporting all these 'collaboration services/devices' for a major multi-national firm. cell phone with as few features as possible and a paper Day-Timer still work for me.

Default love the older Blaupunkts

I had a model very similar to the Dearborn in the 1980s - the Lexington.

Here's what I loved - very simple layout, easy to use and it sounded GREAT!

now, though, I do need the features...

I think the Becker Indianapolis has a factory look. Bound to be another in range with Bluetooth - this has mp3 which is fine for how much I drive the car (10 albums on one CD), and I can always add an iPod interface which links with the display and gives full ipod control.

I waited for one on ebay with amber display, and it's also a great match to the heater control lights and digi-dash.

I had the Hamburg in mine and it was great. Bluetooth worked well. Now I have a JVC touch screen model. I like the JVc even more. The Hamburg was much cheaper and was fine until a channel went.
Good luck. Give me an old Berlin with the hand held controls.
