I have to confess, the Panamera has definitely grown on me. When it was first unveiled, I thought it was a dog, but after seeing it from different angles, I think it is pretty elegant. I still wouldn't buy a four-door porsche simply because if I am gonna drop that much money on a car, I'd rather it be more like a sports car than an executive sedan, but that is personal preference. It's still a gorgeous car.

I heard VW was going to kill the Panamera in a few short years... I would think that reduces the chance of a Panamera based coupe

Understood and agreed although I'd love to be an old man someday hanging out around my Carrera GT. There's a newer Porsche model that my eyes open up to.

Hmmm, that's a leap I did not get from any of the posts in this or related threads, and certainly wasn't my point. The fact that the car is homely in my estimation - and in this thread I am referring to the 2 door version put in post #1 by the OP - stands as a comment by itself, and is not intended to be an indictment against all new Porsches. For instance, I love the Cayman style as much as the 928 style, and that is a modern style (Boxster based I know). I love Astons, certain Jags, and Maserattis, as well as most (but not all) of the new Ferarris. I would give my eye teeth for a Carrera GT3.
My point isn't about being stodgy or old fashioned or stuck on any one design, it's only about how bad this design is.

I'm hoping the new car lives on as a 2 door & 4 door and Porsche/VW finally euthanizes the 911 series. Enough of the 1964 updates!! How long can a company keep repeating the same old song? Talk about a old dowager that's had too many face lifts, botox injections, overweight and plastic surgery! Pull the plug finally.

Agreed with Ed- there are all sorts of cars from all eras that I will someday own and drive and enjoy. And I certainly don't wish ill on Porsche, I hope the Panamera is successful enough that they make the coupe version, it'll be a great car. I didn't mean to infer anything negative about the Panamera other than I don't think it's pretty from some angles, and that's due as much as anything to this '4 uncompromised' constraint in the design. That's all.

.....same here Rob although there are fewer and fewer I'd like to have from the past. The F-car 512TR is one I would LOVE to own(although I don't think I fit in it). I am blessed to currently have a a couple other super hi-po sportscars (500 bhp+) that I also enjoy in addition to the GTS. You can't beat modern technology! Considerations for me have to include whether or not I will actually fit in most...... The Boxster/Cayman are both out b/c I do not fit besides, I prefer the exhaust note from a V8.

I predict the next version of the Panamera will be a two-door, shortened a foot or two from the four-door, and called the Panamera GT. It will be a minimal re-design of the four-door and use almost all of the same parts.

Something close to this seems highly likely to me too..
The worst part of the Panamera to me is the funky rear roof line - its like that to get sufficient headroom in the back seats - remove that requirement and I think the car could look a lot better... why change the rest - the front is already fine to me and the interior is great...

I really want to like the Panamera, but the hatch and rear quarter window ruin the car for me It looks like a Jaguar XF and a 911 had a ugly baby. Why didn't they just give it a normal trunk -- why a hatch back?!!!

Rear of the roof is problem for me also. How much it could be lowered before normal adult needs his/her head cut off to fit in, how much extra space there is?

I see alot of potential in the pana. I see it as a car that many many people will despise because of pre-conveived notions of what a sedan is supposed to look like.

For this reason, it will probably depreciate like a stone dropped through a black hole. It seems to have a great chassis, and the engine of course is wonderful too. Up that boost!

It will probably be about 40k in a few years like the 99k E55s from 2006 are now 25k. Thats perfect. And my wife likes cars that are shaped like Jelly Beans anyway.

I took a pictures of one a few months ago when I saw one and first had Leeroy. I thought it was interesting how large the car looks against the perception of large with the 928 size.

Just a quick note. I wasn't sold on the Panamera either, until I toured Leipzig, and now I'm almost obsessed. I've had my 928 in hundreds of pieces before and I appreciate the way it was put together by the "old guard" at Porsche. The new car is not a 928, but it is a great car in it's own right. I think a coupe version will be great too... but, for me, some day, I'll have a Panamera.
