Default disassembly of heated washer nozzel connector

I just removed my heated washer nozzles from the hood and noted the passenger side wiring harness has 3 wires and the drivers side 2. The third wire is for the under hood light but the replacement part numbers for both heated nozzles is the same.

So

It looks like I need to disassemble the white connector that goes to the main wiring harness in order to replace the nozzles. (Connector 171971998A)

Any wisdom on how to do this?

The tool needed to remove the pins from the connector housing is basically a thin walled steel tube that is slid over the length of the pin from the open end of the connector until it releases the barbs of the pin that retain it in the plastic.

This tube has to be large enough to fit over the pin, but thin-walled enough to enter the narrow bore of the connector body.

That said, I don't know where to find the appropriately sized tool, but it would probably be something like this type used for Molex connectors: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/38...oval_Tool.html

Unfortunately, none of my "standard" (inch sized) Molex tools would fit the pins and connector bodies of similar connectors on my 928.

I hope this helps.

EDIT: Sorry for the weird links from the above page... it was the first reference for Molex tools that Google found for me. Also, I realize now that this was not clear in the above text, but I did not mean to imply that this tool was appropriate for the 928 connector, only that the correctly sized tool should probably look something like this

Thanks for the reference

That is what I was thinking of when I looked inside the business end of the connector.

So now is the release tool available or am I ahead to order the two connectors I need new? My issue with new connectors is I think I then need the white interior light bulb wire as well for the passenger side (171 971 998 b Connector Housing 3 pole)

The basic release tool is an AMP #305183. They are available from many electronics vendors for about $US15. I am pretty sure I bought mine from one of the 928 vendors for about that price but for the life of me I can't remember who. Eagleday sells a set of two multi-type extraction tools that cover a total of 11 or 12 terminal types for $US60. My little tool has been a life saver for the very situations you are facing.

Good luck.

Mike

Thank you for the tool reference. After I checked out the multi tool you referenced @ Ealeday I remembered I picked up a GM terminal removal tool on sale for about $ 10.00 from a local auto parts source for my avalanche "just in case".

The tool worked like a charm - the release was even spring loaded so one the extractor was placed around the pin it popped out - no problem.

Thanks!!

Although the FrozenCPU site is out of stock on the molex tool, I did find a source for my "Blood Energy Potion" supply there in the link on that page. Who woulda thought.

"Synthetic blood substitute. The fruit punch flavor packs 4 hours of energy along with iron, protein, and electrolytes. Not only does Blood Energy Potion have a similar nutritional makeup to real blood, but it has the same color, look, and consistency. Get real blood nutrients without that real blood taste! Re-sealable transfusion bag style pouch. Contains no real blood, just synthetic!"

Ketchup and cranberry juice mix just doesn't hold up to real synthetic "Blood Energy Potion". I wonder what's in your Google search cache that caused that one to pop up? Might be time for a flush and re-seed.

Default Strange Links

Bob: (Previously) I just clicked on RET's link above. It took me to the aforementioned tool page, on that same page are links for "cocaine," other energy drinks and the synth. blood. Mechanics and carpenters must be a fertile market for these products, at least according to DoubleClick, which probably advised the vendor to link the two. (I had a house carpenter go south (literally) after vicoden rehab. We were only out $750.) So far I get along with the caffeine in coffee and tea.
Back to the regular programming.
