I have not read this entire thread, so this may have been addressed already.
I painted my green car myself, also in a home-made booth, and it came out fantastic. People are always amazed to hear I did it myself. So you can, too!
Since it was a semi-opaque, metallic paint, I needed to be careful of my spray patterns. Do the first coat one direction (i.e. longitudinally) then the next the other way (i.e. crossways), alternating patterns between coats. This will avioid "tiger stripe" in the metallic flakes.
Lay the final, most important, coat down in the pattern that is most comfortable for your arm. This will give the most results with the least stress. Then, after the final color coat, hold the gun back a few feet from the most obvious surfaces (i.e. hood, roof, sides) and "mist" some paint gently onto them. This will give the metallic flakes a chance to "stand up" and sparkle, instead of becoming muddled down in the layer of paint itself.
Then clearcoat the thing. Make sure you get it on thick enough to allow for wetsanding down the road.
Good luck!

Fantastic job Dean! And I like the color. It's not traditional but all the special 928's have the non-traditional colors.

Nice job Dean, great color choice,
goodluck with the clearcoat.
One other suggestion jack the car up a about 10 inches, Remove the wheels and mask off the suspensions
this makes painting the rockers and the wheel well edges easy back tape the wells so you dont get overspray on the inside of the wells.
OR not dont know if your painting them
you may need a crate to stand on to clear the roof but the wheel wells and rockers will be fully painted BTDT

Painted the rear hatch, headlight pots, door trim today. More tomorrow. Its slow go wetsanding before painting. I'm not happy with one spot on the hatch. If I can't "fix" it it will be a repaint.

WOW...WOW....WOW!!!! OMG! Dean, I will be sending my Guards Red EURO85 to you right away! You just take your time and paint it when you can...you don't even have to paint the jambs because it is not going to be a color change!
You are doing GREAT work and I can't WAIT to see that car all finished up! AWESOME!
PS...are you going to use some of this paint on the intake or cam covers or whatever underhood? Sure would be COOL!

Painted the side mirrors, gas door and the inside of hood.
I figured out why I was running though the paint too fast. The gun manufacture spec sheet says to shoot at 25 PSI but the paint tech sheet says 10 PSI...I set pressure back to 10 PSI and I don't have hardly any over spray where as before it was thick. Getting a lot more out of the paint coat wise....so moral of the story is USE PAINT TECH sheet instructions always....I guess.

Looks really good Dean, nice job.
So are you planning to wetsand before clear coat or are you going straight to the clear?

Dean, I love that color! Man that car is going to look AWESOME! Did you see my comment to paint some bits and parts (or all) of the intake manifold and cam covers??? I think that would look HOT!

This base is not really to be sanded. It has a ton of gold pearl and metallic in it. It says to shoot clear right over the base...so that is what I'm doing.
