I've been debating on trying this stuff for a long time, but finaly I gave it a shot this past weekend, and my overall impressions are that this is a great product. If your car has a sand-blasted looking front bumper cover this product does a great job of covering up all those little white specs.

I think it is important to set the expectations. This products does not fill in the bigger chips to surface level. I does however make them look almost invisible from about 3 feet away. My car was a total 15-footer, now it's a 3-footer. I like that!

They sell the product in 3-sizes. I opted for the biggest size which cost $59 + S&H. I ordered it on Thursday, and had it in my mailbox on Saturday.

Not sure how this would work on metalic finishes, but solid colors should be great. I've already used a DA buffer on the car and the paint held up fine. Long term durability will be monitored.

The process is pretty simple:

Start with a clean surface. I used some prep-solv to get rid of any wax/grease. You dab the paint on the chip, smear it with your finger, and then let it dry for a few minutes. Then they have some special solution you rub across it to take up the excess - so the surrounding area is clean and the chip is left filled up. Then just buff with micro fiber cloth.

Here's a good shot of what I mean about it not filling the chip, but rather coloring it in. Can you imagine trying to fill all those littel chips in?



All-in-all I think this is a great product if you're considering a re-paint. I figure this $60 gave my car at least a few more years before I pull the trigger on a repaint.

Looks good! Isn't there a similar product called Langka or something like that? Jarrod Wise showed me how he uses this technique on his GT last summer in Dallas ...

When I painted my car I have places around the car, like the windows where the rubber meets the paint. There are some area's that did not get paint on them and there is white/grey primer showing. Would this product work for my situation?

Now that you mention that, I do remember hearing about that. Maybe it's the same stuff. Dr Color Chip has better marketing.

Andrew thank you for posting this. I have been waiting for someone to put up a detailed review of this proudct for a long time.

Good solution if you have lots of small chips which would take forever to fill by hand.

Langka isn't really the same, it is designed for single chip repair.

Do a search under my name and you'll find a write up on it. It works well but I can't see it being used for multiple chips like Dr. Colorchip.

Langka is very poorly marketed IMHO, good product.

I think the magic is the solution you use afterwards. It takes the paint off the surface leaving the pain in the chip alone. Your problem is a little different. If you're gentle with the blending solution, it might work.. might not.

And for the record, I will probably touch up a few of the bigger chips again after SITM - along with the new ones I'll pick up.

Wow - awesome result. I've been thinking about getting this. My only question is how does it work with metallic colors. Does anyone else have experience with this product on metalics?

I question that too, but they do list metalic colors IIRC. But like I said, it won't be perfect, but it will be better than a white chip.

It is paint, so if the prep was right, it should last "forever" with proper maintenance (wash, wax, etc.) The thing to remember is that as long as you drive your car, you will get chips. I only use about a third of the paint & solution so there's plenty there for me to do additional chips as I get them.

Now, if I had pulled the trigger for a re-spray, I'd be afraid to drive the thing for fear of getting chips. Basically, I'd turn into a ***** (sound familiar? ) Now I have no fear - the bumper is already chipped up, but it looks good now, and I can touch up future chips, so there's no worry about driving it - and that's what I was after!

I have used it on my car- prussian blue metallic- and it does a good job, as Andrew said. Its been on for about 6 months and shows no sign of lifting or coming off- I did one mirror, which was blasted nearly piantless, and it cleaned up and filled the chips nicely. I found that if you do the same spot twice or even 3 times, you can almost get a level fill of deep chips.. Certainly an improvement, and very inexpensive.

My front bumper is like that, but honestly it's beyond touch up paints. Im going for the whole respray...some day.
