no way; There is no best oil. It's all the same. Get the cheapest 10W40 you can find at Kmart.



j/k - Royal Purple is my go to choice, 20W50 here in the NE USA.

The oil threads on this list are notorious for their universal non-consensus, long windedness, and general conjecture on the science of Amsoil. The link that Robert posted is probably the best/useful one recently.

Serious answer: Read the owner's manual. There are oil weight guidlines for various temperatures. Most of us run 20w-50, but most of us run in "summer temps." Those of us that live in places that actually have winter park them for that.

Serious answer: Make sure what you choose has adequate Zinc & Phosphorus. The Flat Tappet layout requires it. Most of us consider 1200 ppm of ZDDP to be adequate.

Semi-serious answer: Search is your friend. You will find a bunch of threads with about a bazillion posts. Many are "fan-boy" posts saying "My oil is best, yours sucks!" Many are sheer ignorance.

You will find this to be a rather contentious subject. Along with belt tensioners, politics and religion. Everyone has an opinion, and most of them aren't based on reality or facts.

I have been using the Valvoline Racing dino oil in the 20W50 weight for the 928 its pretty easy to find and has a good ZDDP level and its reasonably priced.

Ed I would suggest to use Brad Penn or Amsoil or the Valvoline VR1 Racing oil.

NOTE the royal P stuff may not be the best I have heard some rumors about it not offering the best protection and I have been using it in my BMW K 1300S and noticed an increase in oil consumption after some 5 K miles, I was previously using the BMW branded oil ,
time for a switch for me.

From what I have gathered, the grade of oil you use depends on the body color and if the vehicle was equipped with the optional Jump Post Cover which adds 50hp.
