I did that to my 89GT, but I used window shade material I got at Pep Boys. It had some insulation value and along with a few other insulation steps I reduced the inlet air temp by 31 degrees F. on a 105 F day here in Texas.

I did the same last summer...makes a big difference when sitting in traffic. The stuff I used has a fibreglass backing and I had velcro stitched along the lengths with kevlar thread. Easy to remove that way. The airbox is the same stuff but with a self adhesive backing.

Wow! I didn't think the residence time of air passing through the tube would be long enough to transfer that much heat. Excellent.

The main reason I did it was because the summer heat tends to make mine run weakly, then when it cools off outside the car runs great.
I first wrapped the tubes with Gorilla duct tape, and it worked nicely, but over a few miles would also become heat-soaked, probably more so than just a plain tube, and had an extra-counter-effective result. So far, this new wrap is doing a great job, and seems to resist heat constantly instead of just for a few minutes.

Does anyone know why the intake tubes are shaped as they are? They are round on the front end, but then taper down in the middle and expand at the airbox. Does this odd shape do something for airflow?
