My 78 is number 535. It does not have the shut off **** on the center vent. It has a blank spot where the **** is which I have seen on some models use the space for an after market alarm keyboard.
The **** must have been deleted early in the production run. Or it was not on the early ones and added after 535. I got some parts off a car in the 1000 or more and it had the **** and some other very funcky things.
I am sure there are hundreds of inconsitences you will run into. I can not tell from the new pictures if the dash and rear quarters were black or dark brown. I do not think there were any red cars with dark brown interiors. The ones I have seen started out life Burgundy or some other colors and were later painted red. But then again there was a lot of variation.

Joe Rusz's memories of the launch. How cool it that?!

Wow, that is some great stuff there, and those pictures are indispensible to a good resto job. You certainly do have a special car there indeed!
Of course, the one thing that really jumps out at me, and for which your car (from the pictures) stands alone - is the perfect alignment of the glove box!
I have never seen one that is exact like that.

These photos helped me find 3 white cars I didn't know about - one of which I can't read the number plate.
None-the-less, the count is up to 14 if you include the super early white & petro blue ones and the Geneva show car. Is it possible the white and petro blue ones were late prototypes (say W6 and W7)?
So yea, there were six 928s at the press launch, 4 white ones and 2 red ones.
EDIT: later confirmed all 11 press cars were there.
Just a little tidbit, but I know from reading Motor Sport, May '77, that out of the 11 press cars, only two remained in press fleet duty - the rest went to Weissach for further testing.
I like this one too because it reminds me of Fraggle...

I'll have to paint it just like that. It's so cool. Heck I think the one I scrapped was the same vintage, it looks like an early bay window.

Fraggle... you know you want it! When I saw that drill press, I thought those Porsche techs are rock stars!

Most of the pics are of the S-CX2136 car. There is one pic that may show the back bumper of your car. I noticed the EURO Fog Light is not included in these bumbers as well as no beading and no Euro side markers.
