Default Illuminated Window Switch Project ** MAILING AND GUIDE UPDATE **

Hello everyone,

for those who are already on the pre-order list and those who are procrastinating this is the schedule update:

All of the parts, except for the electronic boards are in and waiting. We have moved to a US board manufacturer for many reasons: quality, service, and the fact that supporting a local manufacturer certainly can't hurt in the long run, are all high on the list.

The boards will be delivered in about a week. I will contact each one on the list to verify/discuss your preferences in terms of layout, colors etc. prior to assembling the panels.

One of the most recurring comment Hans and I received at 3rd Coast was that the switch panels looks so much better in person than in the pictures.
Unfortunately, taking a good picture of a lighted LED is beyond my basic photographic skills
But I can assure those who have not seen these switch panels in real life that they do look spectacular.

I would ask those who told me at 3rd Coast that they would like to be put on the list of pre-orders to either post here or send me a PM/email, because I know that I forgot a few.

For those still on the fence, next week is the last week to get in at the discounted price for the switch panel (with the configuration of your choice) of $148.00 + shipping

After the deadline the price will be $164.00 + shipping.

For those who want to review the original thread, it can be found here:

Thank you all

Paul

Yes Sir,

most will need the addition of one or two DEI modules which can be found easily and cheaply. We also stock them.

GTS might be able to interface directly. We are still checking that one out.

With the DEI module, you can have express up/down, interface with an alarm etc. and since the switches we use have no moving parts, these will be the last switches you will need to this this job.

Paul,
I want to be on the list please.
In the flesh these look very stock.
More importantly when you press the switch it feels exactly the same as the original but works far better.
Nice work guys.

Paul,

Do you have an early model, no sun roof configuration, i.e. left and right window switches only?

Thanks

I have the manuals for both models of DEI and Hans is working on the diagrams. They will be ready with the panels.

If you want the manual, just drop me an email and I will send them to you.

Hey Jim,

I can make the face any way you want.

You could also add specific buttons in the empty spaces, like dedicated express up and express down.

I can tailor it to your needs.

How much for the kit with the DEI modules? How much time for the installation?

Scott,

I am working with a local DEI dealer to try and get these modules at a price that approaches that of what can be had through ebay. I am at a good place on the 529T (sunroof module), but still negotiating on the 530T.

While we could buy these in bulk on ebay for you, I have opted not to do this for the simple reason of warranty. I could not extend the DEI warranty to you if purchased through ebay, also we will receive full tech support from DEI by purchasing through an authorized dealer.

As far as installation time, it really depends on the level of integration you want to get out of the switches. We are supplying directions to connect the basic functions, but these are capable of actuation on alarm arming and remote control... etc. These functions do add significant time to the install, and will be out of the scope of our instructions. So, depending on what functions you are after, it could be a half-hour installation, or an afternoon.

You do need to remove the console carpeted side panels for access.

The big question now is integration with the 90+ models with the factory "express" module. It is possible that the panel could be installed without the DEI modules. I have not been able to test this, as there are no local 90+ cars to test with, but as soon as we have panels assembled, I will test it out. However, if you are frustrated with the 90+ controller limitations (only controlling one window at at time... etc) then you can bypass it with the DEI's. "Unfortunately" it is not a simple plug and play, as the factory controller must be bypassed, so leads will need to be run under the seat to the location of the factory window controller *or* to the main door harness connectors under the dash. Neither is particularly difficult, and only requires 4 wires be run.

Thanks,
Hans

Hans,

I don't particularly care about the price (and I am only speaking for myself here.) I just don't trust myself, nor my 17-year-old memory of Electrical Engineering class in college, to buy the correct components. I also despise eBay and refuse to use it.

I think like many people on the board, I would like to be able to buy a kit from you that will do all the basics: sunroof open/close, windows up/down, and rear wiper on/off. I don't need any alarm or remote capability. I have an 86.5.

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

Thats the plan, simple install will be included in the directions and with the appropriate harness, anything beyond that I will try and help with, but will ultimately be up to you or your alarm installer.

I should have pricing back from my DEI rep tomorrow, and will share with the list.

I also just received a generous offer to borrow a 90+ car from a fellow Rennlister who is only about 2-hours away, so will be doing testing to finish those instructions soon.

Thanks,
Hans
