Might be worth cross posting it to a VW forum - the offsets are high enough to work with the PCD adapters and there's certainly a market for 16" phone dials on the earlier Golf/Rabbits.

Interesting you say that, Hilton. The first backer for the project was a 71 Beetle owner, who runs Phone Dials... very COOL!

He posted the project up on VWVortex, I commented about the it... then it got shut down. Dunno why... OP is a member.

Default Phone Dial concept vid

Pulled this video out the design archive...

Was used for early concept evaluation before having the prototype made.

I'm with you, Brad... can't wait to see the testing results too! The design has been reviewed by 'wheel people', and all have said it's strong and will pass the test.

The big hold-up has been getting time with the wheel manufacturer. I'm certainly not their 'bread and butter', so I've been very patient.

Good new is they've programmed the wheel and started cutting. First test wheel should be done right about now. Will post pics when I get them.

In the meantime, here's a pic of something that may just be a phone dial wheel. It is happening!

I'm sure it will be strong, I'm more curious about their weight.

Awesome Jim, this is going to be one heck of a beauty. Hope you do a modern finish like the black chrome finish mentioned above. I think it needs that contemporary touch. -Matt

Hey, that right there could make a pretty nice hors d'oeuvre tray. Room in the middle for salsa or cheese dip, too!

Weight should be easy to calculate. Jim has a SolidWorks model, so I bet if you ask him nicely, he can run it through the materials and get a reasonably accurate prediction.
