Any experience with "sticking piston rings" on dormant engine?

Guys,
As a Qualified Diesel Mechanic I'm going to come out in support of Brad, Diesel is no good for many 'O'rings and seals. Engine seals in petrol or diesel engines are not directly exposed to fuel, only oil, and the oils are not so dissimilar.Caterpillar even make '0'rings exposed to different situations, different colours, nice and simple for the American folks, eh Brad.
Diesel dilution of engine oils is a serious and intolerable situation, to be remedied immediately, as diesel breaks down the lubricative properties of engine oil.
As for cylinders, I always assumed that cylinders were machined parallel, no taper. But you know what assume will do? make an *** out of U and ME ! I'll investigate that one more.
So Gunar is going to soak his pistons and bores in Auto Trans Fluid and see what happens ?
Cheers Roy

Everything I do on this car I have to do at least twice because of mistakes. Got the engine out and the rings should be here tomorrow. Can't wait to see what the problemo is with the original rings.

It's amazing how "not tight" some of these fastners feel as I am taking it back apart after putting it together with correct torque values a couple of months ago. It makes me want to torque a little past spec when I put it back together. Gunar

Here is one of the bad rings(piston on right). The piston on the left is out of my other motor. The rings are definitely stuck or worn out. The end gaps are touching. I hope I can get them out without damaging the piston. I plan to do one at a time then put it back to lessen the confusion. Also a picture of the bore which looks good.

Try using a good carb cleaner (not the cheap stuff) on the rings, letting them soak for a few hours. Spray again, and press in with a wooden or plastic tool all around the ring over and over. Get them free without breaking any, and check for wear by checking the end gap on the rings one at a time while they are straight in the bore about an inch down.

Now might be a good time to soak the pistons in the Acetone/ATF mix for a couple of days. Then go for the removal. Or, if you can get something in there without damaging the piston, try it now. But, if it were me, I'd soak them first.....
