Default New Product: *** The SharkWoofer ***

SharkWoofer – 928 spare-tire subwoofer and amplifier mounting system

SharkWoofer is an aftermarket 928 stereo installation system. For the first time ever for the 928, both a subwoofer and 5-channel amplifier can be installed completely undetected in the space previously occupied by the inflatable spare. The only modification required to your 928 will be removing some of the carpet backing on the rear cargo carpet (pre-modified cargo carpets will soon be available).

The module employs a CNC routed mounting plate, which uses the factory spare tire cover tabs and latch. Installation and removal is fast and painless, requiring only basic hand tools to disconnect the power – the module itself is removable in less than 5 minutes for quick access to the battery.

The sealed enclosure was designed with the Stereo Integrity BM-MKIII 12” subwoofer in mind, but with an eye towards compatibility with other drivers, the enclosure will accommodate any driver with a diameter less than 12.35” and mounting depth of 4.5” that requires less than 0.60cuft of volume. This enclosure is ideal for use with many slim-mount 10” subwoofers.

The enclosure has been designed to allow any of the Kenwood Reference Fit amplifiers to fit. These amplifiers all have the same footprint and are available in a mono (XR-1S), 4-channel (XR-4S), and 5-channel (XR-5S) configuration. The 5-channel XR-5s is a very capable and flexible unit, allowing for an easy upgrade of the stock amplifier while adding a subwoofer at the same time.

Please reference this thread for the development of this product:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...all-space.html

The basic system will include:
Fiberglass enclosure, finished with a wear-resistant texturized coating
CNC cut mounting plate, made from King Plastic Starboard a marine grade HDPE
12” powder coated steel grill
90mm fan and grill
Mounting hardware for any Kenwood Reference Fit series amplifier

Optionally available:
Mounting adapter blank for smaller diameter speakers (nominal 12.3” outside diameter)
Dayton NS270-44 with machined adapter
Stereo Integrity BM-MKIII (While supplies last)

Custom machined adapters available on request at the customer’s expense.

Regular list price for the SharkWoofer will be $400, however for the first 10 orders, the price will be reduced to $350.
Standard pricing as follows:

Basic SharkWoofer kit: $400
Mounting adapter blank: $10
Dayton NS270-44 with adapter: $120
Stereo Integrity BM-MKIII: $249 (only available with SharkWoofer purchase)

The customer will need to supply:
8g power wire (needs to be relatively flexible, which most reputable brands are)
Interconnects (Streetwires ZN5 are known to work, but other brands with similar compact connectors should also work)
Speaker wire
Remote turn-on signal capable of powering a 0.5A fan (otherwise a relay will be needed and provided by the customer to power the cooling fan)

Modifications to the rear carpet:
The backing pad underneath the carpet must be removed directly above the subwoofer, and also above the fan and amplifier cooling intake ducts. Optionally, the carpet may be further modified by perforating the factory Sliverknit with a sharp awl – these perforations should not be apparent if done carefully and will allow the fan and subwoofer to run more efficiently. 90+ cars equipped with a thick rubber-foam backed cargo carpet may wish to purchase a replacement carpet for modification purposes. Pre-modified carpet sets will be available shortly.

Variations between model years:
There are some variations between all model years of 928, as well as within those years. While this system has been tested on several cars, and is as close to a drop-in system as possible, it may require slight modification for your 928. The mounting board is made from a very robust but easy to work with plastic. It can be cut, ground, and sanded similar to plywood – your normal woodworking tools will easily make any modifications necessary in this board. There are some additional harnesses on the PSD equipped cars, a pre-modified mounting plate is available for these cars, however this modification was made from a single car, and it is possible that the notches may not be exactly in the same place on your 928 – the PSD version is available at no extra cost.

Please note, that while this is a universal kit and perfect most installations, it is not perfect for all installations. Some additional modifications may be necessary for differing climates (increased cooling capacity fan) or non-stock bodywork. We will do the best we can to assist you with your SharkWoofer, but we cannot be responsible for damaged electronics from improper use.

Standard turn-around time for basic kits is 7 business days. Custom adapter may increase lead-time.

Actually, this is Hans brain child. It is marketed under our collaboration and part of our new line of custom products for the 928. But from design to production, it's all Hans.

One would be very hard pressed to duplicate it at 2-3 times the cost, good job.

Do you need to cut holes in the carpet to vent the fan?
