Ah Sean, thanks for that gem. I kinda figured they took it part.

My question was whether they just did seals or did they do bearings and other worn / failed hard parts.

Our supplier only uses one end of the original (mounting part) and the unit you get back is new.

sorry, that is a bosch off a 78-79, but the bracket is for the 80+

I need to proof read!!!!

My Bosch was in bad shape too, so I bought a used 80+ model and the braket you show. Never looked back.

Jim, as I read this thread I hear the money draining out of your bank account! I hope it goes well though because you really do need A/C in Texas starting about NOW!

It is only really an issue if I want to drive it between 6 AM and 12 mid night

Last year it was a museum piece but now that it is running AC moves up the list above interior work!!

Roger has been a big help and I have some reasonable cost options. Of course my plan was to hang the spare cmpressor, hook it up, repalce a few odds and ends, pressure test and then flush and service and presto AC for $100. I am now sliding right but unduanted

BTW when are you ready to do the arm rest supports. I am off the Arkansas for a wedding and yes I am sure fire arms will be invovled but should I survive so lets get togather next week when i am back

Dan,

Thanks for clarifying. The bosch bracket is still on the car. If I end upo using the denso I thought the other bracket pictured was used in place of the bosch bracket, am i wrong? I believe that currently the bosch bracket also supports the air pump tensioner. I need to figure out what I lose and gain depending on which way i go.

Right now Roger's plan is in the lead

Great. You've got the bracket and compressor for your 79 and youve got a later model bracket for future options.

I went with the later compressor and bracket in order to update the tensioner set up to the (incredibly fabulous) Portensioner! Plug plug.

Default WYAIT...

You may want to clean your evaporator as well..

This is a unit from another AC blower box that I got out of Europe as a spare and I just started to go through it

Jim,

I don't know if it would fit, but I have a used compressor off an 85 that might work without rebuilding. A bit of a gamble, but if you want to go cheap... I'm asking $50 and of course it will cost some bucks to ship since it's so heavy.

Jim,
you could always remove the air pump while you are in there, then you will not have to worry about how it mounts/tensions.

James,

Would love to come up for a visit, but as you may have seen in another thread, I have a bit of a PROJECT going on... (the new engine is in Houston today and will pick it up around lunch time), anyways, doesn't sound like the compressor I have would fit anyway.
