He stated they have worked on 928s before. I shall see what the outcome is when they take a look at it. Otherwise, I have 1 other source to take it to. No other places will consider touching them. One place I went to, the guy thought I was going to shoot him or something. He got real nervous when I brought up Porsche.

Looks like there is a Radiator Leak, as well as a non working Water Pump.

What do you guys think my best bet would be to go? Can a leaking radiator necessarily be fixed? If not, what are some good Radiator options?

New Lasso for pump, plastic impeller, do not let the shop supply the parts.

Where precisely is the water leaving the radiator?
Unless is clearly damaged, delay that part.

That is, de-couple the jobs unless you can see the point of failure, which would be difficult if the pump isn't working.

For a new one, I would trust 928 Intl above all other radiator purveyors.

The new Laso pumps now have cast iron impellers.

What I would first check is the thermostat. Take it out and put it in a cup of boiling water. Do this 3 times and see if it opens up all the way each time. I've worked on an S4 that a mechanic diagnosed as a blown head gasket but after soem digging it was only a failed thermostat and a laeaking radiator.

Warning: Unlike most cars, you CAN NOT drive a 928 without a working thermostat installed. The engine will overheat very quickly if you run it without a thermostat installed, so don't be tempted to do that.

I think that is not correct, the NOS Lasso's have cast impellers, but current production ones are all plastic, no way would I install a cast impeller WP on a 928.

Well it looks like the place will not let me supply my own parts. Said it would be around $5,000 to do everything with the radiator, water pump, and timing belt... Which was a complete "what the " moment. I'll try a few places, but from the sound of things this might be a do it yourself job. Not in the sense of it being easy, but if places are going to charge ridiculous prices such as this... Then...

So getting a Radiator from 928 Int. would be best? Has anyone ever tried one of these? http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/alumradiator.php

I don't blame them.

$5K? You must be bringing 2 cars then.

Not a difficult or costly DIY job on and 82, provided you have the guts and steady hand to drill a few water pump bolts out (if needed / often not needed). Which BTW is probably not in that inflated estimate.

Either DIY it , or dump all the porsche cars. Really.

We've had the parts supply discussion before. Doubtful many shops in that nation are as up to date on parts needs / supplies on 928 as us. No accept parts / pull the business. Period. The day of the typical shop knowing more than us about the 928 is long, long gone.

II'm pretty sure I'm correct. Got one from Roger a couple of months ago and it was cast iron. The one I've put on the '85, a year ago, had a plastic impeller.

That one is plastic, the metal ones are a gray color.

I sent Roger a PM, maybe he will chime in again, pretty sure he has said they were all plastic but that suppliers do try to slip a metal one in from time to time and he sends them back.

All new 87 to 95 Laso pumps since May 2010 have plastic impellers. The earlier style was a little later.
Some old stock pumps still out there. I do not think I have seen a metal impellar 87 to 95 WP this year.
I am sure yours was a plastic impeller Imre.
I personally try and check every one and spin the pulley to make sure the bearing is smooth running.
I have also shown our staff how to check them as well.

I will probably go ahead and order a Radiator from 928 International. I see several options for the Water Pump though. I have seen pumps ranging from $115-$600.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-P...Q5fAccessories

Would something like that work, or would I best going with a Laso as suggested? 928 International lists Laso as only 87+ but I am able to find for my 1982 elsewhere.
