On my 78, I am having low voltage issues. My pod gauge will show volts down in the red area, and my radar detector will show 11-11.5 volts. With the lights and AC on it get down to 10 volts at idle.
So I have cleaned the grounds again, tightened the belt, cleaned the 14 pin, btt terminals and the alt connections, with no noticeable change.
I have checked the voltage at the alt ( pos post to casing). The alt is not very hot since I just started the car and waited until it dropped off high idle.
I have 11.5 volts with the engine running at idle (800 RPMs) and 13.5 volts at 2100 RPMs.

Good chance - swap with the alternator out of the 79 - should be compatible.
