Default $5825.19

That's what the body shop told me it was going to cost the lady who backed in to the 928 last night. I let the wife drive the car to pick up the daughter from Ballet, the parking lot is small there and it's always easier to drive the 928. The lady apparently was backing out of her space and didn't see the Porsche behind it and the front was too low for the back up sensors to see it ?????? whatever.

Anyway, she was highly upset and so was her young daughter, didn't want to tell her husband etc. There was a 1x2 piece of the paint on the ground and she asked Angela if she could keep it since that was about as close as she would get to having a Porsche. I feel for her but that is what insurance is for and no one was hurt.

This poor car has been backed in to twice, rear ended once in the past 3 years. It got a new front bumper last year and looks like it will get a new one again this year along with new paint on the door/hood and new fender.

I feel your 'whatever' Sean. I had a LOL (little old lady) blindly back out of perpendicular parking in front of out Post Office into my passenger fog. I was sitting way behind, waiting for her to pull out. My son was with me, and I heard him gasp ! No body injury (lucky), and was a quick fix.

the irony is that her insurance company will likely want to total the car for that..... call me and I can give you some strategies for dealing with them.

Cost for repair doesn't surprise me at all.

Must be dance studio parking lots. Same thing almost happened to my 928 when picking up my daughter at dance class. I was sitting in the my car laying on the horn, because the Dad in the mini van kept backing up closer and closer.......

Imagine what she was thinking when she heard that crunch. NOT a good sound to hear when backing up.

Sorry to see that Sean- I park out in the street at the gymnastics place, too many yummy mummies parking their Gelandewagens in the compact spots and yapping on their iPhones while backing up. Fraught with peril....

You'll need to make sure your 3-section headlight bar & mounting points is not tweaked also... it looks like the hood side of the headlight opening is creased. (ask me how I know )

Kinda' makes you wish it was legal to drag the other driver out of their window and beat the sheet out of them!

Sorry it happened Sean.

Body shops know they are going to be paid by insurance so they quote crazy stuff. Lots of them won't even do 'restoration' work where there is no insurance co involved. I don't think you have any better choice, but it always feels just wrong to me. Used fenders are going for $150, and maybe $300-$500 to paint it. Not that you can do anything about that, or that it would make a lot of sense to go out of your way to save the insurance co some expense. Used to be that you could get a few quotes, hand them to the insurance company, and they would pay you directly, but I don't think they do that anymore. Too bad, because you could get a used fender, have it painted, install it, and buy a bunch of P.C. interior parts. Or most of a Murf kit.
