Default Won't start after sitting.

I've read several threads on this, but I want to confirm the solution before I order parts.

My '87 928S4 sat for 1 1/2 years until I could do some repairs on the drivetrain (was laid off and couldn't get it done for awhile). I fixed that, but now it won't start. Here's what I've done so far:

1) Engine turns over with no problems. I bought a new battery so it has plenty of starting power.
2) New fuel.
2) The fuel pump is working. It would not turn on with the key, so I jumped the relay and it comes on and fuel is flowing, but it still will not start. I don't think it's the relay causing this problem, but will order a new one anyway when I order parts.
3) I am checking for spark today, but have a feeling it won't be there.

If there is no spark, and no fuel without jumping the relay, am I looking at the computer that runs the ignition? If so, which computer is it? I haven't messed with those at all. I keep seeing LH referenced, but I don't know what that is.

Thanks for the help!

Work through this "No- start" fault find. http://www.jdsporsche.com/fault%20find.html

I expect you will find a spark, but no start. This is usually due to the LH ECU which is the fuel injection computer. The 928 has seperate igntion (EZK) and fuel (LH) control units or "ECUs"

If you do a search on "no start" you will find that realys are often a problem, fule pump, LH and EZK are the three relays critical to start the engine.

Thanks John!

I followed everything on the link and there was a metal 53 relay in the EZK slot. I swapped it with the correct one with the test slot that the PO had left in the glove box and it cranked right up. Don't know why he had that in the glove box, but I sure am happy he did. It saved me $140 for a new one.

Such a beautiful sound!!

Thanks again!!

Sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield!

OK :-) The 53 is OK to use in that slot, functionally the same as the fuse tester relay. So it seems that the fuse tester realy had been removed previously due to a no-start ?

As it appears that this relay slot has been a problem before, tt would be good to check the relay sockets are clean and corrosion free. Sometimes just unplugging and refitting a relay is enough to cut through the dirt and corrosion enough to fix the problem.
