Might be interested. The brush plate on my S4's starter fell apart, and I replace it with a brush plate assembly out of a bug. It is working for now, but the clock it ticking.

Talking about the stock starter. There have been some issues with starters lately.
99% of what I sell are Bosch remanufactured for $106 plus a core charge. It appears that Bosch uses a couple of different facilities for remanufacture and some were shipped with solenoids that do not say “made in Germany” on them. Maybe 6 bad starters in the last four months and all have the solenoid with no made in Germany tag. Tried to buy the solenoid as a separate part for one customer and it is not available as a Bosch part through my normal suppliers. Searching and it can be bought but looks like a knock off and made in Taiwan. Not that is all that bad so I have a couple on order for one of my International customers to try out.
We now weed out the not made in Germany starters so hopefully the issue will go away.

Those Ebay <$150 starters suck. They don't seem to fit right on the '83-up starter mounts as they tend to bind up, and they don't have enough gusto to turn 32Vs autos fast enough. Worked fine on my '81 auto, though.

(BTW, I have two of those starters, one almost new, if anyone with a 4.5L is looking. )

Any idea how much current draw these starters have compared to stock?

I will take one the next time I order some stuff. Would love to hear a sound clip. The woofing noise of the factory starter will be missed. Hope the new one has as much character.

Thanks,
Hans
