Default Sunroof Gasket

My sunroof gasket is starting to look pretty ratty: the frocking has worn off in places and is really starting to bother me. The gasket itself is working just fine, it just looks pretty bad. I found the following site that addresses this.
http://www.kondratyev.com/porsche/te...or/sunroof.htm

They suggest using lacquer thinner (and "a little effort") to clean off the frocking. Will this strip the frocking down to the bare rubber? Is this even a good idea? I'm curious if anyone has tried this, and if so, what were their results.

Leave the flocking alone, die it black if needed, but it's not worth the labor if it's not leaking.
