You need to take all the bolts out first.

The pan on my '91GT donor motor had been glued on with some black goo of some sort. I tapped on it gently for a while and then got pissed off and got out the 3 pound deadblow hammer, turned the engine upside down and hit up on the underside harder and harder until it finally gave. Felt like I was going to break the pan in half.

If it has the original gasket that s being replaced Id force it off in several locations with a scraper.

A dead blow hammer shouldn't hurt the pan at all. Thats what I would use.

Plastic or wooden wedges placed at intervals around the pan and then a tap with a hammer on each one in sequence has worked for me ... used that method on lots of other diff and gearbox covers too. Saves beating the s**t out of things.
