How do you remove a modulator valve on an 928 auto box?
Need to swop out my Modulator valve on my auto box but can't see how it comes out? Have the new one & it doesn't give many clues as to how to removed it/fit it.
Anyone done this or got any idea's?
Thanks
Steve

Not sure what year you working on but I have replaced the modulator on my 84'. On mine I had to drop the rear section of the exhaust system and the heat shield to gain access. Once that is out there are two allen head screws that hold in a metal plate which holds the modulator in place. Once the plate is off the modulator will slide out and you can put in a new one. It will be a tight fit with a new "O" ring gasket. I lubed mine with a little ATF when reinstalling.

Should be the same. Not sure about the exhaust clearence on the 88'. When you get the new valve installed you will have to adjust the modulator pressure using the little "T" handle that is on the valve. The procedure in the WSM uses pressure guages attached to the trans to measure and adjust the pressure. You can also adjust by the "seat of the pants method". I used my old modulator as a reference by counting the number of turns in until it bottomed out and set the new valve with the same number of turns as a starting point. Drive and make 1/2 turn adjustments with the "T" handle until it feels good to you. Mine took me about 6 adjust / drives until I got it where I like it. If you haven't done so you should check to make sure you have vacuum getting to the modulator. many have cured problems by simply fixing a bad / broken vac line to the modulator.
