Default Anyone who has a Chevy powered 928 please post!

Who else has a chevy powered 928?

It would be great if we could get a group/email list (or even subforum?) for fellow bastard owners to discuss builds, problems, tuning, racing, etc.

I am aware there is a Hybrids board on another site, but its a complete ghost town over there.

So if you have a bastard, hybrid, or whatever the hell you want to call it, please post!

Shhhhhhhh. Don't encourage them. (just kidding) Although I'd never do it, it would be interesting to see what and how it was done.

Talk to Rob Budd, he is one of the providers for new leather interiors. He had a Chevy powered 928.

Wow you can really tell a difference in how the 90* Porsche V8 fills in the engine bay vs the 60* chevy.

Yup, if its good enough for KTM and (until recently) NASCAR its good enough for me

Although I'd never do it, it would be interesting to see what and how it was done.
Check the link in my sig... Im still getting it up to date but it has a ton of pics and info

Thanks for asking. Yes, I would participate and share any knowledge I have acquired with my track car. I finished building my car around 2005 and have tracked it primarily at Carolina Motorsports Park, Road Atlanta, VIR, Charlotte, and Roebling. Very reliable, easy maintenance. I have posted build photos on my user profile album.

the chevy is also a 90 degree V-8 just not overhead cams and much lighter and much more powerful. Far more compact and efficient. Not to mention much cheaper to buy and cheaper to mod...

I stand corrected.... I was under the impression they were 60 degree. Guess I should google it first. Either way there is a big difference in the room under the hood.

All Chevy V-8's are 90 degree engines. Only the V-6's are 60 degrees, except the 4.3. That's based on the 350 SB so it's 90. The old Chevy SB engine (1955 through the LT series) is only 19" wide (less exhaust) because it does not have OH Camshafts. The 32v 928 engine is 28" wide, 31" at the t-belt housings. The new LS series of engine is a bit wider than the old SB but much lighter. The truck versions of the LS's uses a cast iron block and is better suited (heavier weight-wise) to the 928. We've done LT, LQ and LN series GM V-8 conversions. Also some LS 944's.

Some people say we'll go to hell for doing this but if you had a choice of doing a conversion or scrapping your 928...do the conversion! Done right, it can easlily be reversed too. Then appreciate the torque and cheap HP you can make with one of these engines! Top speed suffers but then, in this country we race from red light to red light, not from city to city!

The alloy block would be better as it would make the rear heavier than 50/50 which is a plus for handling , acceleration ,and braking.
Not sure how top speed would suffer with more horsepower and torque as you can always run taller rear tires plus the redline on a 928 is pretty low anyway.
