5 people have now driven a 928 on the road at 200mph +
George Sunnen
Tim Dey
Cheryl Dey
Marc Thomas
Susan Thomas
Tim and Cheryl have the most time at that speed than any 928 drivers!!
928's have been going 200 mph since 1998 or so, a tribute to the core engineering by Porsche, individual persistence and skill with iron like guts and laser focus necessary to go barreling down an open road at 3.5 miles per minute....
Be safe, be fast!
Again, well done George!!

I did a final touch up of the fuel mixture in a couple of small areas of the fuel map the day before the race when George and I did some WOT runs to redline in 3rd gear out on the course. Very, very few knocks. The car ran much better at the high desert altitude than on the sea level dyno, as we've come to expect, due to the reduced effective compression. I looked at the ignition timing and thought about bumping it a little, but left it alone.
The race schedule ran about as well as it can, with George going off at approximately 11:15. Very few mechanical breakdowns and no accidents at all. The event was over and the road reopened before 12:30. That's the earliest I know of. Most of the time it doesn't reopen until close to 4 o'clock.
I waited at the start line for George to return back up the course, and eventually we met up and debriefed. As George reported, the car ran super well and the race was uneventful with no wind or road debris to deal with. We have only a few small items to deal with this summer before George goes out for the September race. I enjoy helping George tune and prep the car, but I will keep to my decision not to navigate again. The car is very stable and now seems to be pretty well tuned and reliable enough, BUT the risk of a serious accident at 200+ MPH is just too great for my tolerance level. A navigator would have helped George to avoid missing the speed trap area and would have improved the target average speed accuracy.

Thanks John,
And thanks for developing the Sharktuner. It really is a significant tool to get the 928
running well with modification.
Thanks Andy,
With the water/methanol injection we were able to go back to 91 pump gas and tune for 12.0-12.5
AFR without knocks. That and tuning the cruise map as well as the WOT map made most of the
difference.
Thanks Andrew,
They usually don't post the trap speeds for a week or two after the event.
Thanks Marc,
I really appreciate all your work and support on the car, I'm still running with the same suspense setup
that you did in 2002, as well as the same roll cage, fuel cell, and front splitter/spoiler.
And Bill,
The biggest thanks to you. I couldn't have done it without you. Your an amazing friend to 928 community,
and to me. Thanks.

Video is such a pain to edit. It takes so much time. I had told Bill I was going to go out easy
and get up to 170ish mph and cruise until the second long straight. There I would do a brief
run up to 190ish and see how the car was doing. Anyway here is a video of my start at the
NORC run (1:30 seconds 720P resolution), before the 2nd straight.
The wmv file is 77 MB and seems to have a tick in the sound track:
http://928.jorj7.com/2012-norc/2012-norc-start.wmv
The mpg file is 220 MB and sounds a lot better, but takes longer to download:
http://928.jorj7.com/2012-norc/2012-norc-start.mpg
It probably better to download the file, then playing it, since it so big.
The complete video is 4.8 GB, so won't be available on the internet. I will probably take a few
more clips from it and put them up later.

Congratulations George!
I know how long you have been after this and I am very happy that you are now officially a 200 mph club member. You deserve it. I had my fingers crossed when I saw your GPS in the photo. Their radar is usually 2 - 3 mph slower that our GPS reading so I knew it would be close one way or the other.
Enjoy your outstanding success.

Ely at the SSCC in September. By the way, I talked to Bob last weekend and
he said he misses his old car and was disappointed not seeing there.

Thanks Greg, Tim, Redpathtribe, and Bill. It definitely is a weight off my shoulders. It's been a long
hard journey since I first started running Super Sport Division in 2005, especially after losing an
engine at the 2007 Bonneville 100. I still want to continue in ORR, maybe try 170 class.

Here is the video from the Speed Trap section of the run. I hit the 202/203 mph point after I passed
the radar guys, so I was glad they were able to read me at 200.5 mph.
2:17 minutes 121 MB wmv file (with ticks in the sound track)
http://928.jorj7.com/2012-norc/2012-norc-trap.wmv
and 324 MB mpg version:
