Okay after a bit of research....our "porsche d!ck" is a well known air cooled rear engine type...one of those PCA old school guys who would NEVER-EVER buy a front engined Porsche, probably water cooled too....

He runs a 993 that appears to be lighted modified based of his class of AX10, for example my new racer is in the much faster class of AX5.... I can't find any results from any time trials or open track events.....so he must love the cones more than the big track.....just for kicks the Thunderhill lap record in his class is a high 2:08, which is respectable if they were going over the top.....but still slower than the 2:06.5 I ran in the estate or 2:07.1 I ran in Casper on old tires and only 4th gear :>)

It all comes down to the person... it's got nothin' to do with the car.
George you err on two counts; that I deserve respect is one , the other regards my comment about the 911 being a "popular" car. I meant it as a broad generalization. My point is there are a very large number of people who buy, have bought, 911 derivatives because it is/was popular and the car was readily recognizable. The same phenomena is reflected in Corvette ownership as well. There are some owners, like yourself, whom drive a 911 for the reasons you state, but I posture you are a minority 911 owner. Very, very, few people buy and own a 928 because it is popular. It never was, most likely never will be, hence my "popular" statement.

Although this thread certainly deserves a dignified natural death, I will throw this out - didn't Road and Track or Car and Driver refer to the 928 as the "perfect firebird" when it first came out? I had a Firebird at that time and was thrilled to death by the association.

German Camaro or firebird is like a 1st graders comment equal to a claim that it is the german Ford LTD or the german Chevy impala or German olds cutlass. It has a V8 in front, wow what a connection.

Jeremy is a bit of a troll like that... I'm pretty sure he also says stuff that he doesn't personally believe in, just to get noticed, cause Top Gear is BBC's biggest earner.

He recently said that people who commit suicide by rail are selfish for the delays they cause and should instead be left on the tracks for the birds to scavenge... Paraphrasing there, but that is the entirety of it.

I know he deffinitely doesn't like Porsche's though, and since the 928 actually pleased him, that's pretty high praise coming from him.

Two acquaintances drive 930 Turbos, and are really quite proud of them…garage queens for the greater part…they think their 930’s are really fast and think that a 930 T muffler system in titanium for $9995 is a good deal, and think that their $200 a can wax really does make the car much faster……a 3rd is a long time 911 aficionado and has owned several . All 3 act like the 928 is more Yugo than Porsche. And no, I am not thin skinned about it and yes they are serious in their 928 bigotry. I sent them some of Mark Anderson’s videos, have not heard from any of them since. Wonder why?

Conversely, I had a fellow in a newish Carrera 4 flag me down a couple of weeks ago just to tell me how much he liked 928’s and how he would really prefer the 928, if Porsche still made them. I have noticed several local 911 owners pretty much drool on our 928’s, so as others so aptly point out, there are a kinds out there, and perhaps most of them will at least respect our 928’s in the morning….so to speak…

I am looking for new 928 supportive acquaintances…….

I never quite saw the great humor in the **** camaro remark. Somewhat interesting but I would not consider it a knee slapper. Most good guys usually have respect for all good cars, and they have respect for the owners that drive them and appreciate them. All of us here know how great of a car the 928 is and when I meet someone I want them to learn about it and appreciate it. I don't want them to look at me like I am an azz and only drive a Porsche because I am a ******** like the guy this post is about. I personally am excited to see a lot of great cars in Witchita this weekend of all makes and models.

You can be the bigger d*ck, or be the bigger man. Take the high road on this and let him believe what he wishes. He'll never experience what we have. (poping the head lights and getting a hole in the radiator). Can't, can't we all just, get along?????

To the top 3 guys show them the famous magazine ad

The bottom comment hits the reality bullseye ----- If we could go back in time and do an experiment where we would offer a 928 to all 911 buyers back in the 1980's for the same price they were about to spend on the 911, my belief from experience is that you would be well over 90% taking that offer.

Contrary to what some say the 928 was extremely popular and drooled over, but it cost as much as a middle class house did so not many could afford it. and the FACTS are that it did everything better than the 911, everything acceleration, braking, cornering, looks, feel, sound, interior ..............

I think I said above I like all cars including 911's but numbers are numbers, and video is video

There is a reason 911 owners like the 911. Shoot, I like em. Even so, I am pretty sure a 928 is the better car. But when the 928 came out, they deliberately held the power down, and it wasn't really well received by many in the Porsche community. It also came with those USA only 15 inch wheels, which are really not what you want to run in general with a 215 tire.

For whatever reason, 928s don't get a lot of respect by everyone. And for whatever reason, many of us buy a 928 not knowing this, and thinking we did something pretty darned cool, only to have someone burst our little balloon. Take your 928 out for a spin and forget about it. They can run with the big dogs, and they are great cars. It ain't about what they say, it's about how you feel that counts.

But ask yourself this. If he's the jerk, how come you got stuck with the attitude ?

FWIW, if you keep your 928 long enough, it won't make a darned bit of difference to you. Heck, you may even get feisty enough to buy a Miata. And don't let my avatar fool you. Out of 9 Porsches, 4 have been 928s.
