It seems to me that many forget WHY the manufactures went to low vis oils, and that was the CAFE standards, not because it was better for the engine in many cases.

Does anybody rember Molyslip? (molybdenum)

I used that in my old motorycylces, and it was amazing stuff.

Maybe since the newer oils and use of synthetics, its not needed, or has limited benefits??

The stuff is black, and looks like pencil graphite, and is slippery like crazy.

And sticks to the metal as well, so for initial start up, might be good?

I heard the promotor (this is going back like 20-30 years ago) drove from Toronto to Daytona, drained the oil and did lap (or 3?) and put oil back in, and drove it home. (Did it trash it, who knows, but still interesting he made it home no issues)

Here is a current video of some guy driving 20 miles no oil in 2010

I don't chime in much here anymore, hell I don't even log in much anymore. But I do have to say,I've gone 270k on one 928 and another 100k on the other without any internal engine issues just using basic 20/50 and,I feel is the most important part, just one brand the whole time.

Formulas frequently change for the same exact product.

For instance, GTX has a new add pack with sodium, that didn't exist "270k miles ago".

Kendall GT-1, same deal, but with titanium.

Some say changing brands is a good idea, as one formula may clear deposits from another. Pennzoil Ultra has made some claims in regards to this, as well as Castrol.

From what I stated above, I'm not convinced of that as a fact, but for sure, formulas change for every iteration of API specs.

Maybe you missed Mobil's assertion that their 0w-40 is approved "for all Porsche engines".

Can't fix stupid...

Another ancient "fix it"! Adding insoluble molydisulfide in huge quantities to a balanced and tested formula, lol.

Many oils have no moly at all, I guess the engineers simply forgot about adding insoluble solids.

A "high moly" oil will be in the 100ppm range, but I though zink was the ticket...?

How does CAFE affect a 30 year old car?

Still waiting for the owner's manual images...

Like I said...

So now can we talk in a language other than gibberish?

While looking for that image, I had the pleasure of reading some really absurd oil rants. imo, this forum of any needs to step into the real world.

You guys are lucky I made the time for you. It's a shame, because that visc chart looks identical to the one I already posted.

I'll throw out another bone...

Audi Junkie , its hard to understand what you are trying to say , because you jump around a bit too much , in fact its almost total gibberish ( your'e words so you must know at least what that means) .

But besides that , I have a question , what is your'e first name ? & what part of the world are you living ? ,because as it is it looks as if you are hiding behind your'e Pseudonym & if so hiding from what ?
