Took off the inner part of the sunroof to find the tracks and shoes covered in a black varnish.............guess that is a reason for getting stuck.Motor seems good. Cant get the screw out to use the crank thing, any suggestions on screw removal ? Friggin' nightmare ...

It's going to be tough with the paint so close. Most solvents that will lift grease will probably damage your clearcoat. If you are careful, gasoline (or diesel) should be able to get the degreasing done. If you know a chemist, ask for hexanes or heptane, and wear gloves. Otherwise, get some plastic sheeting, tape up the area so you don't make a huge mess, and get a toothbrush and soapy water and get to scrubbing.

When I bought mine the sunroof was frozen but the motor was fine. I ended up pulling out the sunroof cables and attacking them with Liquid Wrench and a wire brush. The cables were quite robust and a bit of elbow grease removed 30 years of crap. Works fine now!

as Stan (mrmerlin) has said many times, never lube those cables - they should go in dry, and this is the reason why; plus grease captures and holds dirt and causes additional problems.

I would take it all apart and clean it well, replace any of the little bits that are cracked or broken, and the seal (it is a 2 part seal) and you will be good to go for years. I have done this job and it is not hard to do.

As to that screw, that is the hardest screw to remove that I have ever encountered. Remove the motor and take it to the bench and remove it there. Soak it with liquid wrench or pb blaster first, or apply a little heat.

to soften the grease spray some WD 40 0n the tracks and let it soakm
put a blanket over the seats and cover the door panels with towels,
so the over spray wont stain the interior
